PSA: MIM Tele
Guitar Center deal...ash Telecaster. Pretty much sums it up. Even if the pickups on this are so-so, this is a great buy on a nice platform for customization.

Nice.
Pickups are fine. I used to criticize them but after using a variety of amps and pedals, the MIMs are only limited by the player. I would grab that in a heartbeat if I already didn't have one! |

Yeah, there's no reason to think those pups might be sub-par, and I'm personally quite fond of Ash as a body wood for these.
The bass player in my cover band has an older, 90's era MIM Tele (in a rare sea-foam green color) that I've played a few times at our gigs (before I finally broke down and got my Nashville Tele). It sounds just like a Telecaster.

The modern C neck is too small for my taste.

Great looking guitar!
I wouldn't be in a hurry to replace those pickups either. |

I've got a 2007 MIM FSR ash Tele with essentially the same specs (except Tex-Mex pups). I happen to like the modern neck profile. If thats ok - these special run ash teles are really nice for the price.
The ash body is heavy but has a good heft - not a trace of neck dive. Very resonant - plays and sounds good as is. If you want a tele that says so on the head stock, the clear ash finish appeals to you, and this is the price point - go for it. |

Here's mine. Don't play it much, probably as good as I'll ever need. Pickups switched to '57's and I added a Fishman Powerbridge to make it sort of a hybrid.

I have a 2012 MIM Strat and just acquired a 2013 MIM Tele. I can say the Strat pickups were awful. To the point that I was second guessing some amp mods because I was using that guitar to test with. So sterile. Then I plugged in a guitar with NICE pickups. I also despise power line noise so much that I popped in some 245 pickups from a 2013 PRS Santana SE...nice tones now!
The Tele, however, sounded great. I was just back to the line noise, so...this one? Hehehe...got some EMG Hetfields in it. They were "payment" for amp work I did for a friend. The result, I love it! I used a concentric pot to empty enough control cavity space to easily park the battery with no routing. Worked well. Now the Strat is going bye-bye as it just doesn't get played. Body/Neck-wise...loved them both. So, as for that ash one ya got? Can't wait to see what you do with it! https://www.dropbox.com/s/quxd8kkiic..._1924.jpg?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/lyej58d9vk..._1934.jpg?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/gkp7w80erw..._1940.jpg?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/m13oiznjln..._1950.jpg?dl=0

Several years ago I picked up two MIM Teles for conversion projects. I made custom thinline figured wood bodies (one in birdseye maple and one in blue-stained flamed maple) and dropped Texas Specials in. They were both wonderful instruments, and I mostly did it because the MIM necks were SO much better than anything U.S. produced at the time.
