Modern Les Pauls are chambered. The older models have solid bodies, therefore they weigh significantly more. The new models are REPORTED to have the same tonal qualities, but I have yet to verify this fact for myself.
It may be in the best interest of those shopping for a Gibson to look used. There are many, many great options floating around that don't fall under the ridiculous 29% increase and drop in quality that has also been reported recently.

Gee with the G-Force tuners, zero fret nut, UGLY Les Paul 100 headstock logo, dumb hologram as well as substantial price increases...the 120th Anniversary inlay on the 2014 models everyone was complaining about doesn't look so bad now huh?
The only thing I do like about the 2015's is the hard shell case. I'm glad I picked up a '14 LPJ and Melody Maker on sale recently.
