Default Build: Doerr Legacy Select - Swiss / Brazillian

i commissioned a build with Tom Doerr at the beginning of the year, and I am excited that it will be commencing sometime in December 2014

It will be an all-wood themed guitar with with Swiss over BRW. Legacy Select in Tom's signature specs. This will be the second Doerr I'll have the privilege to own

I should mention as well that Tom has been wonderful to deal with and I just love his designs and sense of aesthetics.

Basic specs:
- Doerr Signature Legacy Select
- Swiss Spruce Top
- Brazillian Rosewood Back and Sides
- wood rosette & trim
- Florentine Cutaway
- Ryan-style bevel
- Brazillian Fretboard, Bridge, Headplate & Backplates (all bound in ebony)
- Micro-pearl purflings on headplate, fingerboard, rosette and bridge
- 1 3/4" nut, standard scale length

Here's pictures of the back and side set for starters:

I'll post more pictures as the build develops in time!

Great to see your Brazilian set! Really gorgeous. Since Tom will be working on both of our builds together, it will be nice to know I'm not alone in my rapt anticipation of each new picture and detail. I think the micro-pearl will look great with your set--a little like his 100th guitar. I actually got to play that guitar at his shop when I first visited with him last January. It was a real masterpiece. Made me nervous just to hold it. I expect I'll feel that way when I first play my own--but I'll get over that very quickly.

Thanks everyone I appreciate the kind comments, and thanks for looking! I went through more than a couple of wood sets and changes in options and Tom was just patient and most accommodating.

Gaultier, I am glad our builds are in the same batch it will be cool to see two BRW Doerrs take shape together, in different body styles! I have never seen an full abalone Doerr Trinity and am sure that Tom will surely be able to nail the look you are going for looking forward to your build!

Thank you Bobby! btw i love watching your youtube videos. thanks for sharing those nice guitars that come your way on video.

Tom was kind enough to send a couple of fretboards for me to pick one out. I truly was undecided between boards #4 or #5:

They both have a nice colors and some pretty ink lines, and that's one half of the back for color and grain comparison.

And then Tom sent me one more and I knew this would fit:

So Tom started the build about a week ago. Here's a picture of the raw materials:

A close up of the back:

It truly is exciting seeing the materials come together!

Thanks Fred, for sharing my excitement about this build I loved what Tom did with your cedar cocobolo legacy, that set of coco was among the great best I have seen and I loved the coco appointment scheme on your instrument as well!

Tom has been kept busy!

The back is cut out and centre strip glued in:

double sides are fit into the mold, with solid linings that join the top and kerfed linings that join the back:

Back lattice bracing is prepared in and thin channels cut out in the centre strip to accommodate the braces:

And it goes into a vacuum press:

Back braces are planed off. I am impressed with the clean and smooth workmanship even on the insides:

Tom's wood logo is glued in:

The back is joined with the sides:

And here's a cool shot of Tom's wood D Logo hanging out between the braces:
