NGD! Eastman T386
Guitar got delivered fairly early this morning, and I just opened up the case to check her out a few minutes ago. Initial impressions so far: fit is very good, finish has a slight run on the back. Invisible unless the light reflects off it just right. Setup is decent, better than average for a factory produced guitar. The nut slots are slightly high, the intonation is a couple of cents off, but the relief and action height are excellent out of the box. I have a set of .012 gauge strings with a wound G for her later and will reset the intonation then. The neck is wide and fairly slim. Feels really good under my fingers, and gives me the room I like for easy fretting during runs and playing extended chords.
I like the pickups so far through the Deluxe. I need to adjust the poles and overall height to my taste, but the tone is nice. Neck pup is very clean and does a nice rhythm sound, and has a nice, almost vocal quality as you get further up the neck. The bridge pup has a snarl and bite to it that reminds me of the Duncan JB I have in my Les Paul. The caps are well chosen, and take just enough off the top for my taste. The pots feel cheap, as they probably are. Nowhere near as smooth as CTS ones. They get the job done and are quiet, though. I'll post some pics after I give her a quick wipedown this evening and install new strings and straplocks. Had to put her away to take the daughter to her gym class.

Great review, Clint, and Congrats! I know it's still early, but are you planning any modifications, such as new pots?

If you can get the nut off without any damage, it's not too hard to take some material off the bottom - no specialist tools required like you'd need to file slots. Just be careful to keep it flat and square.
Looking forward to hearing how it sounds through the new amp |

As they say, this thread is useless without pics.
I'll have to pull out the nut files tomorrow; the slots need to be dressed a bit wider to accommodate the new strings properly as well as lowered. After some tweaking, the stock pickups sound really good. The heavier strings really bring the body into the sound and make her growl when the amp is pushed hard. I think I will probably rewire her at some point as well. The stock pots lower the volume too fast for my taste; they need a better taper like the CTS pots in my LP have. I hear some great potential waiting to be unlocked inside this guitar.

A beauty and a great review. Play it in good health! Don't neglect your Lester, though.

Thanks! She's proving to be a real gem paired with the tweed amp. I'm amazed at the range of sounds that can be gotten with just the guitar controls and the amp settings. I should have picked up one of these a long time ago.
