Tale of 3 Jumbos (Somogyi and Kostal content)
The best guitar I have ever played is a 97' Somogyi Jumbo.
The sound was incredibly loud and powerful... it filled the room w/ it's sweet voice... Very lush, it was orchestral... It had a presence of a grand piano. I played it in a small vintage shop in Osaka more than 6 years ago. Ever since that time... I begun lusting for that sound That is how I ended up w/ these 3 superb instruments. Kostal Maple Jumbo, Somogyi Braz Jumbo, Kostal Braz Jumbo I still wish I will be able to find the 97' Jumbo that got away. It was too expensive at that point in my life.... Looking back I shouldve taken a loan and bought it |

My shoulder pain did not stop me from buying more Jumbos...
I guess Im really after the tone of the 97' that got away The first Jumbo is a Kostal German/Braz Jumbo. A very beautiful guitar... Jason used Master grade woods... I considered the Jumbo design when I was discussing its merits w/ Jason. It is heavy... my heaviest guitar ever. This guitar is all about power... Last edited by Fsgeek; 06-27-2015 at 09:34 AM. |

WOW! :0 Was the jumbo the one in Memphis? If so, I played it, and it is stellar.

The second Jumbo used to be Jason's personal guitar.
It is a stunner... Even my wife loves the aesthetics of this guitar... The details are classy... It weighs a lot less than the Braz Jumbo The guitar doesnt sound like maple... It has a big warm bass... very clear sound w/ nice reverb. |

Your collection of JUMBO's all look wonderful but the maple Kostal is outstanding.

Perhaps you can give us your views on how the three instruments compare. The one Kostal OM (Brazilian) I got the chance to play didn't seem to have quite the resonance and responsiveness of the dozens of Somogyis I've auditioned. But I only played the one Kostal so I'd like to hear what you have to say about it. Thanks in advance.

Man, I am amazed you even have a wife given the zillions of guitars in your house; she must be very tolerant.
I am seeing Jason in a few weeks and I am going to ask him directly if you are crazy!! Cheers, Steve |

Hi, wonderful guitars that you have there! You write that the Kostal maple jumbo dosn't sound like a maple guitar. I know that we had several maple discussions in recent times and wouldn't it be appropriate to say that the guitar does sound like what a great maple guitar should sound like? Just thinking .

Stunning guitars, Dave.
The Kostal pair is beautifully matched while the Somogyi looks incredible. I could be happy with any of them. Do you still have any Mod Ds in your collection? |
