Thanks cigarfan. It's funny how I barely felt the wait before starting the build, but now I can't wait to play it.

Fantastic set of Cuban Mahogany. I love seeing woods used that were felled naturally. This guitar will be a winner!

There's some great Cuban in the UK, some of which comes from 'recycled' furniture several hundred years old. Cuban isn't the most flash back and side set but it's my favourite.
Mark H will make a great guitar with it. |

Hi everyone, thanks for your responses and interest.
Mark and I have decided on going with Cocobolo for the armrest bevel and trim (rosette, binding, end graft, fretboard binding, heel cap, back and possibly front of headstock, cross grained up the center of the neck laminates). Happily, more pics today, with Mark's typically fantastic shots. Joining and joined back. I don't know what those little wooden waffles in the first shot are, but don't you think they look tasty? Joining the Engelmann top: A mock up of the cross-grained Cocobolo rosette (the ruler indicates its half inch width)

I agree with what has been said. "Plain" cuban mahogany has a great simplistic, rustic feel to it. I admittedly fall for all the exotic woods out there today, but if you're a mahogany guy then this guitar will be tough to beat. Really looking forward to watching this unfold.
Cheers, Mark |

...and we now have a rosette: understated organic elegance, in my opinion.

Happy day - more pics provided.
Another look at the rosette: The Hatcher seal of approval: And the rosette becomes a window to an amber universe:

Thanks, cigarfan - I also find the orange tone very pleasing. It's awesome to watch these tree slices start to come together as a guitar.

Hey Tom,
Thanks for the input, I've had a blast following your build. Mark and I have decided on Cocobolo for the armrest bevel and trim (rosette, binding, end graft, fretboard binding, heel cap, back and possibly front of headstock) It's gratifying to watch things move along with each pic. D.
