Default Arrgghh

We just shot a video for a Mcilroy AJ15C. Easily the best-sounding guitar we've shot in months. I go to stick the CF card in the computer....and stick it in the disk drive instead. I'm good at breaking down and repairing computers, but I don't know if I'm that good.

D'oh!

Umm.... what did you stick it into, exactly?

The disk drive. The computer has a slot for a CF card, and a disk drive immediately adjacent. 35 years at this couldn't trump one moment of distraction.

Sounds like a good job to sub out. Your certainly not the first person to ever make that mistake, and there are probably some tricks and techniques only learned through experience. It could be more useful in taking advantage of someone else's skill, instead of putting in the learning curve effort yourself.

Yup—closing up early to go to the local repair guy. He said he sees it all the time, and has an easy fix, presumably some sort of Disk Drive Slim Jim or something. Here's hoping!

Shaking. Who would've guessed?

My local tech dude used to work in an Apple Store, where they apparently did this rather frequently—I'm evidently not the first. So I just shook it up and down violently, and the card dropped out. Protip in case this happens to you.

Hey, at least you didn’t pick up a revolver instead of a taser.

Were both drives slot-loaders (in that case, an easy mistake) or was the disk-drive a drawer?

Yup. And separated by about a centimeter. All's well that ends well.

That's so easy to do on an iMac... #guilty

I think the only "solution" is to buy a 27" iMac 5K Retina which doesn't have an optical drive slot. At least that's what I'm convincing myself for when this iMac has its fourth birthday in about six months.

I just noticed MY iMac has the same problem. I like the way you think. I might need to do something about this.

Huh. Not sure how a CF card could even begin to fit into a slot-loading CD drive. Glad you got the issue resolved though.

...not so bad....a few weeks ago i accidentally stuck a rectifier tube in one of the power tube sockets of my pristine 66 fender Princeton and fried the original power transformer and filter cap....doh!!!...350 dollars later my Princeton sounds great again but is probably worth 350 dollars less with the replacement parts.....so that was a seven hundred dollar momentary lapse of concentration....i hate it when that happens...Arrgghh indeed!
