Larrivee is releasing a new BT-3, a satin finish recording grade baritone according to their website. Otherwise, you just need to search the classifieds and jump when opportunity presents itself -

I'm waiting for the Larrivee BT-03 but it will be 2x his budget.
Tacoma used to make a thunderhawk baritone that was under 1k, but the company is out of business. You can occasionally find them used, but it seems like people are asking more for them used than they sold for new. It's also a big beast with 29" scale. Alvarez Yairi makes the YB1, which is reportedly a good one, but they are out of your' range for a new one and used ones are scarce. It seems like the Avante would be the only baritone under 1K. I'm waiting for companies like Blue Ridge, Eastman, Recording King, etc to jump into the fray.
