Default "Careful Girl" -- new tune

Had a customer drop off his 2014 Huss and Dalton TD-R Custom on Friday (torrified adirondack top, EI rosewood back and sides, hide glue) ... coincidentally, had written a song that morning, so Saturday I seized his guitar and recorded it. Man, did that guitar ever record well. I usually go for a smaller body, but ... woo.

There's five of me on here and we're all lefties

Can post audio with just the guitar and vocal if you really want to isolate it. Beautiful sounding dread.

Thanks, folks ... some technical details for those inclined ...

The Huss was miked with a pair of Neumann KM-184 small condensers, spaced pair (ORTF) about a foot off the guitar ... right mic was pointed at the neck joint, left mic at the body, panned hard right and left (right side was slightly to the center in the full mix). Vocal was done with a Flea Vintage 47. All three mics were run through a Presonus ADL-600 preamp with a pair of vintage Telefunken ECC83 tubes in the first position. Organ is a Nord Electro 4 run through a Neo Ventilator, bass went direct off a GenzBenz Shuttle head. It was really a quick demo -- that was the first take right there -- but it came out nice enough where I might remix it a little and keep it.

The Huss was strung with D'Addario EJ-17 strings, they were not fresh. I used a BlueChip TD-80 pick that a customer gave me -- coincidentally, the same customer who owns the TD-R. Can't say enough about that dread, it's one of the best I've had through here and I've had some mighty fine lefties.

Great song and production but your voice really shines. I look forward to more from you.

Really nice song. Great vocal! Organ was a nice touch. You did very well on the guitar accompaniment as well!

Thanks! As I'm sure some of songwriters are aware, you can go through these little periods where songs are just falling out of the sky, so after months of nothing cooking, I have two or three new ones perking right now.

I also just completed an original record with some real standout players from the Boston area -- Duke Levine, Kevin Barry among them. It can streamed for free at my site http://vicderobertis.com

I was, of course, the only lefty in the studio

Vic,

I like the song, the playing, writing and you've got a great voice.

Did your customer know you were using his guitar to record your song?

He did ... when he dropped it off he asked if I would do a video demo of his guitar for him, and since I had just written the song that morning and was going to have to set up the mics and the camera to demo the guitar anyway ... I went the full nine with it. He dug it.

If you'd like to hear the audio with just the guitar and vocal, it's here:

There are some really great high overtones coming off that dread which you can hear much better isolated than in the full mix.
