The rosette is koa and ebony, minimalist and beautiful

John has also finished bracing the back and top as well! The way he carves braces is really lovely. The top braces on a Datlen are as graceful as I’ve ever seen.

The top

This guitar and Johns building is absurd. Going into finish soon! LOTS of pics...

Woooooooow. If you haven’t checked out the Golden Era Guitar Datlen thread, I’d recommend it! Between these two builds you can really see how good John is. Goodness gracious.

John and I discussed a very subtle aesthetic for this guitar with the ABW being so dark and beautiful. John new that the purfling would star due to the contrast and with that I asked for thin lines and not much adornment. John absolutely knocked this guitar out of the park...it is so rich and understated. I can’t wait to have it in my arms!
Here are the final pics before finish!
I hope that the attention Johns work is getting in the forum inspires some of you to call him. The guitars he is building right now are incredible and the value is nuts.

Thank you Fred! Clips forthcoming, for sure. I’m guessing I should have this guitar sometime in March.

Wow Josh, looking good

I am sure you will be a very happy owner. I did something similar a few years back... my second build with Mike Baranik was Italian over ABW. Very good for my playing style (another light player), and a fantastic counterpoint to my other guitars.

Look forward to more posts!
