I played a Baranik 00m in manchinga at TAMCO a couple of years ago. If memory serves me well, with the manchinga, the midrange warmed up nicely without getting cluttered when I really lay into some heavy strumming. That Baranik 00m was a lovely instrument, whose sound was a hair more focused on the fundamental than on the 00m that came home with me. Different tops, mind you. The manchinga had a sitka top (like El Conquistador's), whereas mine has Carpathian over higuerilla. (You can see the pics still on TAMCO's website.)

Looking forward to more pics.
Deft, thanks for your comments. As there were not many Manchinga builds I could find, your comments on playing one are appreciated. I saw your Higuerilla build on TAMCO's website while reaseaching Manchinga guitars as it has some Manchinga on it as well. Beautiful looking guitar.

Really cool wood choice. Should be really fun to see this come together!

Beau, in general, we are using Rocklite on this build as a substitution for Ebony. My original thoughts were to use Ebony with as little to no variation in the colour (pure black). Joel presented this as a man made alternative material (that is solid black), and this total substitution on the build was appealing to me on various levels.

As to the binding in particular, Joel has used this material successfully on multiple projects and feels that there are benefits all round in its use. I don't wish to seem elusive here but I don't feel I am the best spokesman to present all of Joel's reasoning and experience in using this material. Maybe he will chime in at some point as to why he is offering Rocklite in his luthier practice, if there is enough interest. You could also contact him directly for a more detailed discussion.

I'll give Joel a call about it.

Default Building the rosette

Moving forward, Joel has sent some rosette pictures. Starting with the pieces -

Then it was installed, sorry no in process pics -

Now, dressed and the hole installed (love the chisel handle) -

First view of the top -

Everything seems to be moving along just nicely

Oh wow!! This has to be one of the nicest rosettes I've seen. I have to thank you for posting photos of your build progress, otherwise I would go nuts waiting for mine haha!

Thanks virob, the material we had for the radial ring of the rosette turned out better than I could have hoped for. Joel's workmanship seems like it was up to the task as well

Default Interlude

In my email the other day I received a bonus from Joel. He shared a video that was produced by a Scottish exchange student who was portraying artists and the locations were they choose to live. Low and behold, Joel was one of the artists.

As I do not live close enough to visit Joel's shop easily and have never met him in person, this is as close to being in the shop as I will likely get. It's nice to be able to see the luthier in his natural habitat ... lol

As far as I can tell, this is the world premier release on the AGF (that's my story and I'm sticking to it). As an added bonus, the background track is played by AGF member Marcus Wong.
