Very airy and lively, and in fact, I don't think it would benefit from a mic as a dual source, it seems very "mic-like" by itself. I have yet to try this tape install in a live situation, hope to soon, but it sounds very good at home.
hi Doug, has your evaluation of this pickup changed, or do you still feel the same? How does this compare to K&K or Dazzo? Thanks.

I haven't tried this pickup again since this discussion. I know it can sound very good, but I have several pickup setups I like these days, especially with ToneDexter in the picture now, and am being less tempted to experiment with different pickups.

For those who wish to install a Schatten Artist HFN system, be aware that getting the three legs of the pickup to sit flat on the bridgeplate, and remain so, may require selective sanding of one or more of the pickup's three feet. I've used the supplied 3M foam tape but had the center leg of the pickup separate slightly from the bridgeplate in both guitars in which I tried the system. The amplified tone was thin in both cases and I removed the system and returned it. I should have taken time to screw around more to get better results. The problem is that you're never sure if all three legs of the pickup are in the best contact possible after tuning the guitar back up to pitch after pickup installation. Sanding the feet to yield the best contact results is likely necessary, and then supergluing the three feet of the pickup to the bridgeplate may be the best solution?

I've been using the Trance M, Dazzo, and also have a Barbara in 1guitar that I like. All work very well, especially when you add ToneDexter.

thanks Doug. Dazzo and KK pure mini seem to cover very similar grounds. Is Dazzo really worth twice the cost of KK?

I prefer the sound of the Dazzo, at least in the guitar I have mine in (I've tried lots of different installs with Teddy over the years - not all have worked out, tho many were early on in his experimenting). At this point, I refuse to use superglue on a guitar, but that's just me - I learned my lesson after trying to install a Trance in guitar that previously had a K&K. Everyone's taste is different, and different guitars respond differently, and K&Ks sound fine. I actually still have those in a few guitars as well.
