Think that's crazy? Well, DW made a limited run of 30 of his R30 drum set back in 2006. These were available for $30k.

If you like his cymbals, you could get some just like them - Sabian Paragon for about $3000.

I'm sure there's more.
Ouch times three....

Some expensive gear. Good thing I'm not a drummer.

Ditto! I too, literally, saw them 7-8 times between '77 and '81 (at venues in Cleveland and Pittsburgh).

Indeed! I saw them in my hometown during their marathon 2112 tour on 5 December 1977. I vividly remember standing in line outside the Tomorrow Club downtown on that very cold night so we could get spots up by the stage! Tickets were $4, with festival seating in an old movie theater building.

I saw so many big acts under similar circumstance...That's one reason why I find it hard to go to concerts now...Such sticker shock.

Rumor has it that they played at the local community college here in '74 for free.......I was only 12 at the time and about 3 years away from hearing them the first time, so I was not there

The only place I go for live music anymore is The Ark - holds 400 and tickets are usually between 20 and 35 for some big name acoustic folks. I can't handle crowds any larger and as you say, won't pay the big bucks for the "arena" concerts.

...snip...
Their first gig here was in 1975...$3 at the door (see below). I was 15 in 1975, and hadn't heard of them at the time. The Tomorrow Club was an 18+ venue, but I had no problem getting in at 17.

Since Youngstown is right between Pittsburgh and Cleveland, most of the "club" tour acts played here in those days. This was also around the time the mills closed (late 1977), so the city had a population of over 100,000, and everyone had some disposable income. By about 1982, we had entered the 'Rust Belt' and all that started to change.

I was just looking through the tour date link you posted and I didn't see the Delta College show in '74, but I did find this interesting:

May 18, 1974 North Side Drive-In -- Lansing, Michigan [first U.S. show]

I was living about 25 miles from there at the time! History......and I missed out again

Wow...that's one heck of a tour schedule! I don't even know how some of it was logistically possible.

I've been playing drums for about as long as I've been playing guitar (but I play drums A LOT more than I play guitar).

I enjoy drums so much more than playing guitar...except when it comes to loading gear. Oh, I'm also the PA guy too.

Still worth the trouble. It's a lot of fun.

I had forgotten you were a drummer, PPG. Have you played in different bands as a drummer and guitarist?

I used to play some guitar at a church I used to attend. About 10 years ago, I did the singer/songwriter thing (major fail). I also recorded acoustic guitar on four different hammered dulcimer projects I did several years ago. Before the time mentioned, I played drums in several bands, and most recently, I play drums at my current church every other week, and I play drums in the band in my signature. These days, it's pretty much drums and drums only. I get my guitar out of the case once a year...if that.

I still try to contribute here and enjoy the folks here, so I keep coming back.
