N(used)GD! Gibson ES-335
FedEx just dropped off my guitar a few minutes ago. It's still pretty well chilled from travel, so I'm going to let it sit overnight (an eternity!) before opening it up. Pics and review tomorrow.

Fantastic!! Going to be a long night, Clint. If it were me I'd be up at 6:00am just to open the box.

Clint;
Remember, 335's are laminated wood, so the concern about both humidity and finish cracking is not nearly so high as with an all solid wood guitar... I don't know if Gibson is still using lacquer for their finishes or not, but I know that both my '74 ES-345 and my '67 ES-175 are lacquer finishes... and they will check some. Just so you know, I have NEVER humidified my electric guitars, and I have never had any problem with them whatsoever, at least not from humidity issues... if I lived somewhere where the humidity was ALWAYS low, then I might do something, but the West Coast has a decent range of humidity... You don't have to wait until tomorrow to open that baby up! 4-6 hours is plenty...

I'm pretty sure this one is lacquer finished, and it was cold enough that the case started sweating when I opened the box to have a peek. Better safe than sorry, I figure. I'd rather wait for no reason than have finish checking from being impatient.
Edit: I pulled the case out of the box, and it's still cool four hours later. Patience, patience.

Hi Clint,
You will enjoy that ES-335. I've had mine since about 1978. Mine definitely has a lacquer finish. Tell us about it tomorrow! - Glenn

Nothing better than lacquer cracks on a Gibson sunburst.

where did it come from and where are you? may not be much difference in temperatures, and, it is used. however, i understand your cautiousness and can't wait to see pics of it as i have a 68 that is a great player.

I've been amusing myself with my other guitars, and putting up decorations this evening. Still, I hear it calling me.

Congrats on the 335! I've had mine since 1966. Whew - 48 years. Time flies when you don't know what you're doing. I've had plenty of offers to buy or trade over the years... hope you enjoy yours for years and years!

Opened her up this morning. First impression is they did a great job packing it. The guitar was completely immobilized in the case, and the case in the box. Opened the case, and wow! What a beauty.
Quick strum: wow, really detuned. Tune her up, and try again. Mmm. Warm, resonant, and surprisingly loud. I can feel the whole guitar vibrating with a medium strum. The previous owner likes lighter strings and higher action than I do, too. Easy fix later. Alright, let's plug her into the Tweed. Dang, treble strings really bark. Need to adjust the pickups. The pickup stagger pattern looks like it previously wore a wound G string and got restrung with a plain one. Cool. I like them wound. Restring and tweak the setup later, and she'll be good to go. The pickups have a great sound, and I can conjure up some very recognizable sounds pretty easily. The rest of the hardware feels very solid, as it should. Nothing needs upgrading here, definitely. I already love this thing! Just feels so natural to play, like it knows what I want to do ahead of time. Now, some pics:
