Amy MacDonald
Sarah McLaughlin

And of course Pat Benatar (j/k)

I do not know of any girls that do not sing and only play guitar like Jimmy Page or Keith Richards, etc . . .

Default Joni Mitchell & Bonnie Raitt

Aloha,

Joni Mitchell reinvented the way she played & recorded acoustic, electric & hybrid guitars to compliment her amazing lyrics, songs & numerous open tunings. Joni has never been given enough credit as a completely original guitar player, IMO.

Bonnie Raitt created her own electric slide blues style to go with that honey sweet voice. What a touch on her tasty licks. She only gets better. Not bad for a 70 year old!

Though I've heard many female guitar players these last 60 years, including most of those listed previously on this thread, those two great artists above are the only females who's guitar playing & styles I found to be completely original & compelling, & that I truly liked. They've both stood the test of time for over 50 years!

Unfortunately, most girls just are not real innovators or original trend-setters as guitar players.

I kind of like Kasey Musgraves. She's not the female Eddie Van Halen, but she writes great songs, has a nice voice and makes a guitar sound very nice. And she's easy on the eyes. (OK! I said it! Looks matter. So shoot me).

Ok--while I'm at it I'm going to throw in Katy Perry too! Take that!

And if my daughters tell me they want to play guitar like Taylor Swift, I'd be perfectly happy with that.

Default Lauren Sheehan

As anyone who's attended to her live concerts or the CD highlighting 12 different Banner Gibsons (The Light Still Shines) can attest...

Whoa, I had no idea that Katy Perry plays guitar and that was an excellent acoustic performance.

I loved Katzenjammer too!

How could I have not mentioned Sol, Marianne, Turid and Anne Marit? Katzenjammer are one of the best bands around and live they are phenomenal - four multi-talented ladies who all play guitar bass (balalaika!), drums and keyboards, plus a load of other instruments from trumpet and mandolin to banjo and glockenspiel. When I saw them they managed 18 different instruments between them in the course of the show, often two or three at a time. Check out their Große Freiheit, Hamburg show on youtube. Just a pity Marianne has left (hopefully only temporarily) to focus on solo work.

Check out Helen Avakian. She won the fingerstyle championship 2 years ago.

THAT HAMBURG SHOW IS SHEER MAGIC!!!!!!! Watched it dozens of times. I often just run it for background music at work, home, in my car....

Marianne Sveen probably went the solo direction because it's easier to manage with babies. She's got a big pregnant belly on that 2012 Hamburg show, and she was pregnant on tour in 2015. I imagine rock stardom and touring is hard to manage while pregnant and wrangling rugrats. I saw a video on her facebook page where she's in her home studio, trying to lay down vocal tracks with a baby in her lap slapping at her piano (it was so cute, I was barfing rainbows). She's been doing work with her fellow Katzenjammer ladies, on her facebook page are videos of her jamming with Anne Marit.

And then they did this just the other day... I love that they're singing in their native language, even though I don't understand a word of it!!!

Love molly Tuttle as well. One of my personal favorites is Caitlin Canty. Her haunting, sparse style fits her voice and songwriting perfectly. Reminds me less is more often times.
