Default Sonar Help Needed...

So I decided to upgrade the free version that came with the Tascam US-2x2 USB Interface (sonar LE) to Sonar Artist.
I went ahead and purchased the quick pro guide below.
This is my problem, no matter where I look there is nothing that pertains to the sonar artist.

The book below is very outdated, but it does have useful information.
What kind of resources did you guys use learning this software.

Best I've been able to make out it the software went from X1 to X2 to X3 then to Artist-producer and platinum?

Any help from Sonar users would be appreciated.
Thank you!

Although I'm a Logic Pro user I've been helping a friend who has Sonar X3 Producer work through the program's many impressive features. He has not found the User's manual to be particularly intuitive. As a result the primary resource we've been using is the website linked below. We've been working through the videos going all the way back to the X1 tutorials. Sonar's various iterations are cumulative so the videos are set up in a logical sequence and are very easy to follow. Hope this helps.

Thank you so much for that.
I have been trying to make sense of those videos and they seem to be all over the place. It is better than nothing for sure.

I found the videos to be the best way to learn Sonar. If anything the manuals were counter intuitive!

I think that the problem with me is that I'm expecting videos that start in the beginning like a manual and go to the end.
I am going to take them for what they are and take it nice and slow.
Thank you.

Hello Ruben,
My approach was to select the Sonar X1 video tab first, then work through them in the following order: 1) Audio Configuration
2) Record an Audio Track
3) Tools and Editing
4) Inserting Effects
5) ProChannel
6) Basic Mix Functions
7) Exporting Audio.
This may not be the order you choose but it worked for me. Since most DAWs are essentially the same in terms of functions and features (i.e.AudioSnap in Sonar is like Flex mode in Logic Pro and elastic time in Pro Tools) it's really a matter of getting to know your DAWs interface and how to access all the functions and features. The above list is really just a starting point. Sonar is a very comprehensive software program so to really get the most from it you'll need a working knowledge of all the video subsets (Sonar X1, Sonar X2, Sonar X3). There's no getting around the fact the learning curve is pretty steep at first but for me that's been one of the most enjoyable aspects of the journey.
Good luck,
Trevor

I learned Sonar by reading the comments in the Cakewalk forum, lots of great advice there, plus you can ask whatever you want, the people there are very helpful. Reading Scott Garrigus's Sonar Power books help a lot too. Well worth the money for great reference books.

I now have Sonar Platinum and it's a fabulous program.

+1000 on the forum and Garrigus's books. I got started with Sonar 7 and never upgraded since my needs are quite small. The manual that comes with the software is quite useless.

I've got Sonar X1 Studio and I have found it hard going. Years ago I was happily using Sonar 2.0 but there is far more to the program nowadays.

I find it quite easy to record and mix audio tracks but very difficult to produce a backing track "midi" style using the editors.

For example I've got Ez Drummer and Addictive Drums plugins but it seems without a drum map I can't use the drum editor and have to use the piano roll instead. Which sucks for drum programming and editing.

It's a long road....

Hi Ruben. Sorry I'm late to the party. Again.

I am a Sonar user. It's been through a lot of changes over the years. If your a new user, I recommend getting these videos that I have received emails about. This is the most current information about the version of Sonar that you have.

It will make it easier for you to do apple to apple comparisons. A lot of the books and videos posted above are from older versions. All have extremely useful info, but will be lacking due to their age.

The new Sonar consists of 3 levels much like the past versions. The Sonar Artist that you have is the base version, minus lots of bells and whistles that the other two have. Mostly Plug-ins, Pro Channel, and Instruments, etc. So, finding info specific to "Sonar Artist" maybe difficult.

I have not bought these, but they seem to be it best available for your needs.
