Digital music transfer questions.....
Ok - so this is all coming from the recent realization that my next Honda WILL NOT have a CD player (what is the world coming to?) I have probably 1000 or more titles on CDR's that I play in the car (the originals stay in plastic outer bags in their jewel boxes on the shelf) that are going to be obsolete.
In this age of technology, why isn't there a way to (some kind of dock etc) transfer CD's directly to a digital music player without having to import it into Itunes first and load your computer up with tons of music taking up disc space? Seems like there could be some kind of unit that would compress files in the same way while sending it to the player? Is there something like this out there, or am I just dreaming like usual.

I just bought a low mileage used 2015 Accord. It's got usb and bluetooth and...yep, a CD player!!! I'm not ashamed to admit it was a consideration in not buying new.

Not sure what a CD receiver is? Are you talking about an in-dash unit? That's apparently why there are no CD players now - there is no room in the dash for one with all this silly technology they have. I'm not putting one under the seat or in the glove box.

I'm driving a 2016 now and it has one, but the next (probably this summer) will not.

That's why Itunes is awful. You used to be able to do that with non-Apple MP3 players. I don't how that works now though since I just download digitally from the start nowadays and haven't ripped a CD in about 10 years.
Do you only have a Mac? If not, just buy a cheap 16 or 32 GB flash drive and use Windows to rip to the flash drive.

My 2012 Honda has a large hard drive in its stereo system--play a cd once and it remembers it forever.
This is quite an incentive for me to hang on to it beyond what I would otherwise be willing to put up with. So far 85k miles and no major issues.... Itunes is overly complicated for my simple mind, I'm not a fan at all. By the time I buy another car I hope Amazon Echo is installed. That is technology I can live with

I'm not a Mac user, but once you get the music on the flash drive, how do you play it in the car?

So I'm guessing the files still need to come from Itunes or some other program that compresses the files? I'm gathering from the responses that there isn't anything on the market like I'm talking about.

Yes - no room in the dash for something like that.

Albums go into folders on the USB. I use AiFF format files for best quality. |

We bought a new RAV 4 for my wife. It doesn't have a CD player, but she can play her iPod through the USB port in the car. I have a 2014 Highlander and it has a CD player, and USB port and mini pin jack, so we have moved to to the digital age. My car made the cut way back 3 to 4 years ago. Just as 8 track, cassette were phased out so goes CDs.
