Strange that it is a maple dread. I guess they are trying to hit a guitar niche that isnt filled currently. Maple Cutaway Dread...

Re: maple w/cutaway...could be they don't want to compete too much with Guild?

My thought exactly.

And they're only making 30 of them. So why even enter the (already crowded) market, when you own several companies competing in it? Maybe they're sick of being known for making terrible acoustics, and this is an attempt to revive their reputation?

Take it beyond Guild. Does anyone else making guitars in America make a maple A/E cutaway dread at the price point?

The last Fender acoustic that impressed me was an early 70's Newport model I owned. The tone was wonderful, but the playability was too bad to fix effectively and I traded it off. I never really thought to see whether it was American made. Later on, I tried some higher end acoustic Fender came out with, Asian made, but definitely better than previous models. I discovered Taylors soon after and my perspectives changed too.

I cannot imagine Fender making a decent acoustic. It is just something I cannot fathom. I am sure it will not be cheap either. I mean, their American Standard strats list around $1300, which is absurd, especially considering you can get a G&L for similar prices. I know it is wrong to judge it before I try it, but I cannot help it.

Edit: I missed the price the first time. Geez. $2k for a Fender acoustic.

Yeah but that's list, at <$1000 an American Standard is a great deal (the Tele even more so). I imagine this acoustic, with bone nut & saddle (but satin finish???) will be pretty reasonable at $1300-1400 IF the tone is there and the electronics are up to snuff.

Looks to me like a Guild with a different bridge, headstock and pick guard.

At 30 units you know they didn't tool up for it. I'd throw Taylor into the hat. In a recent post it was reviled that they are in cahoots on distribution.

Default I have to wonder

What would make this guitar any different from past Fender acosutics, yes it is made in the US but would that alone make it any better then their foriegn made Fenders, me thinks not.
Seems to me that it would be nothing more then a gimmick to entice folks to buy US made Fenders without any proof that they are made better. Unless as John suggested they were made by ( Taylor ) for Fender. I also wonder if it was machined somewhere else ( maybe not the US ) and then assembled in the US. Would that still make it a US made instrument.
They should stick to what works and forget about trying to capture a market already dominated by so many.ship

Amen Bro. They are one of those take you by surprise guitars. Our local music shop has one in and I got a chance to give it a good tryout. With that broomstick running the length of the thing I was not expecting much but it sounded alot fuller and warmer than some of the much higher dollar, big name acoustic maker instruments in the store.

I have been giving some thought to going in an snagging it.
