The Meridian Has Landed
I received my new Baranik Meridian two days ago, and I was stunned when I opened the case. The guitar looks better than I could have imagined, from all the small details to the whole design concept. Mike pulled out his very best woods on this one, including the crazy Cocobolo back/side set, the super silky Colorado Blue Spruce top, and the fine grained mahogany neck. The fiddleback Australian blackwood tuner buttons are the icing on the cake. I absolutely love the spiderwebbing on this cocobolo set; it is like a combination of the best looking Brazilian and Ziricote.
As good as the guitar looks, it sounds even better. I was expecting the guitar to be tight sounding at first, but I was wrong. It is full sounding with great dynamics, balance and sustain. The highs are sweet and complex with the perfect blend of overtones. I'm so happy with the sound and playability. I can't imagine how good the guitar is going to sound when it breaks in! The guitar even smells great, as the inside half of the double-sides are Spanish cedar. I've never owned a Hoffee carbon fiber case before, but I'm sold on those as well. I'll be recording and posting some sound clips of this Meridian in the next few weeks. Even though it's hard to capture the full beauty of this guitar with photos, here is my attempt today:

Stunning guitar--really love all the detailing. Especially like the top shot of the cutaway showing that trippy grain pattern. Beautiful!

I also own a Baranik CX in Colorado Blue Spruce and African Blackwood. I really like the darkness, complexity and overtones that African Blackwood adds. John |

I wish I could have been there to see you again and all the wonderful Baraniks you own. I've played my Black and Blue CX a lot over the last two years and it has really opened up. It would have been fun to compare the two Black and Blues again. As I remember, at the last gathering you picked out a wonderful set of royal ebony (I'm probably forgetting the name of the wood you picked but I remember how good it looked). Did you ever get that guitar finished? Did you pick out any more wood this time? Hopefully I'll see you again in 2015. I plan to be there for sure this time. Please keep in touch. John |

John - words fail! Too bad we couldn't "fix" the shipping to wait until the gathering - this would have been Baranik #20!! But - we are collectively happy you have received and are enjoying such a magnificent guitar.
I'll post more later on the gathering and the workshop by Dorian - a great time was had by all. In the meantime, enjoy, and feed our vicarious celebrating! Phil |
