Do different amp brands suit different genres better?
I'm not talking about, for example, the Fender Blues Jr is obviously designed towards blues. What I mean is, like the taylor vs martin vs gibson argument, what brand amps - as a whole - suit what genres?
(Only looking for the top, say, 5 most common) (Also, not looking for bass / acoustic amps - just electric) Cheers |

I think that certain companies definitely make amps more suited to certain styles but like most all musical equipment there are people doing the exact opposite of what you'd think, like using Teles for metal or Taylors for bluegrass! And for the record I never once played Blues on my Blues Jr.
Here's how I'd break down the big ones... Fender - Country, Blues, Rock Vox - Indie Rock, Classic Rock Marshall - Classic Rock, Hard Rock Mesa/Boogie - Hard Rock, Metal That's pretty much the progression as I see it from lightest to heaviest. |

Wonderful! That makes choices a little easier I guess :P
I know there'll always be exceptions but I was trying to generalise as much as possible to simplify things haha Thanks for your help |

Right on, hope it helps. Not sure where you live but if you are close by a Guitar Center or other big box guitar store (or better yet a local one with good selection) there is really no substitute for trying out a bunch of amps yourself. It's free and fun! Just try to go on a weekday during school hours if possible...you'll actually be able to hear the amps.
