My post was firmly tongue in cheek, glad you caught it. My membership in the MOC was included with my spiffy new Martin last year-I've got enough trinkets to last me a while so don't believe I'll renew my membership.

That's it!
Return your OM to the CF Martin Company immediately.
You can keep the trinkets.

Created a firestorm on the AGF
If this is a firestorm, then you must like your boxing with furry, pillowy mittens. I am enjoying the back and forth on this. I am not sure I am convinced that nickel wound titanium is a huge leap forward.

Did Martin really do years of research on these strings themselves, or did they just acquire years of research by the other maker of titanium strings?

It seems the other maker not long ago stopped selling, and shortly after, Martin started promoting it's upcoming titanium strings.

Any chance Martin just bought the other company out? (not a bad idea for sure)

The owner had health issues I read. Maybe he was willing to sell at a good price? Just speculating here, of course, but the timing of the end of one titanium string producer and the soon after start of another could mean something---or not.

If it was a buy out, probably a win-win for both.

Nor should you be.
The only way to find out is try them.
I do remove my mittens when I play.

Has anyone tried them out on a EIR backed guitar yet? If so how were they?

I've had them on this Alpine Spruce/EIR jumbo for 4 months.
They sound very, very good.

Default They arrived - so far so good!

Strung them on my Italian spruce/Hog Bourgeois OO today and my first impression is they really sound great. Much more mellow than my go to's (JP PB lights), as expected, but with a similarly long sustain and really nice tone that seems to bring out the wood of the guitar. I hate elixirs (sorry guys..) - they're so slippery and make all of my guitars sound the same - but have quite acidic sweat and tear through un coated strings after less than a week of playing. Really hopeful that these last as long as advertised - if I can get 5+ weeks out of them, it's a no brainer. I'm pretty optimistic so far, but only time will tell how they last. Going to burn through my deep string stash before buying another set, but if they really last as long as promised, I have a feeling they'll be the only strings I need. Cautiously optimistic after an hour!

Cheers!

This is my take as well. Particularly the ongoing experimentation, and cleaning/inspection I do with each change. I'm a bit strange because I like changing strings for some reason even I don't get.

Kip, I'd be sending those pictures to Martin customer service a.s.a.p.
I'm sure they will replace them and they need to see there is a problem.
