I have more modest dreams. I would love to play (and hope to eventually own) a D-28 Ambertone and an OM-21 VS.
I would love to try an M-36 too. The one that Maury's can order custom with the sunburst is gorgeous.

I can honestly say there is nothing in my bucket.
A 1976 Guild D-55 and 2015 Martin D-28 Auth 37 VTS leaves me entirely satisfied ... so much so that this non-smoker wants to light up a cigarette. I realize there are better, and certainly more expensive, guitars. But, I would never pay what they cost. It was hard enough to cough up the $5,200 for the Auth. I practically have a mental block preventing me from wanting/considering/dreaming for more-expensive guitars, just like picks that cost over 50 cents, or a smartphone. It's not that I can't afford it; some things IMO are just not worth what they cost to me. It's a perception thing, entirely personal. As always, YMMV. I have no opinion on what others value. Some day a 000 or 00 might be nice to add to my harem, but I'm sure I'd miss the low end of the dreads that I've spent 50+ years becoming accustomed to. Last edited by Tico; 08-18-2017 at 05:31 PM. |

by the term, experience, are you saying to play them or purchase them? a lot of difference there.
if you are saying, purchase, then i would go for a 00015sm. i have the 0015m but my wife and i purchased one for her adult daughter and every chance i get, i play it. plus, i don't have a 12 fret slothead. ha! if you are saying just to play, then i have played the d100 and found it to be an excellent guitar. just can't afford it. i would also like to play a couple of acoustic and electric collings. can't afford them either. other than those, unless i ran into a very expensive guitar of someone else's who let me play it, none. i have a friend with a banner gibson and a gibson previously owned by j.j. cale. i've played both and they are both great guitars, but i can't afford either one. play music!

My uncle's walnut
I like what I have but some day I would kind of like to have one built with walnut from my woodworking/wood collecting uncle with a little scrimshaw I do myself. I love the scrimshaw on Froggy Bottom guitars and so have been working on it. Of course no one but the player sees these tiny designs since they are in the back, but they are so unique and beautiful.
From that you can tell I have already found guitars whose sound I love. It would only be a very sentimental treat for me. |

My list would be relatively basic and approachable:
Gibson advanced jumbo 12 fret Spruce topped Torres based classical from a modest custom luthier 640mm scale Eastman Acoustic Archtop Last edited by gmr; 08-18-2017 at 03:51 PM. |

OP here. Yeah, I'm not necessarily interested in owning any of these, but I would like to know what it's like playing some of these rare/expensive/relatively famous instruments. And I'm interested I knowing what you all would like to try. I've played an Olson, Sexauer, Goodall, SCGC, Collings, etc. but would like a taste of the rarified air.

Lowden was on my bucket list. I looked for a full year before I played my first one and bought one used.
I really don't have a bucket list for guitars probably because it's a novel. I'd like to try another H&D. |

To own a left-handed Emerald Synergy X7 Super Treble, strung righty. I know that it's possible, but to realize it would be a bit of a monetary stretch, and with one in hand I would ignore all of my other guitars, which would become the reality and a shame. Even now, I hear several of them calling. As their ward/guardian, it's up to me to do right by them.

I'm not sure if it's a bucket list guitar, but based on what I've heard, I sure would like to play a Traugott and find out.

Martin HD-35 (I've been waiting 10 years for one but made less discretionary purchases which only served to delay it)
McKnight commission Soli Deo Gloria (dreadnought depth) with Carpathian spruce top and wenge inner back and sides with likely black walnut outer back and sides with steamed ebony bridge, fingerboard and headplate veneers. I'd like to have a flamed binding, and have a nautical theme. I'd also love to try out a Taylor 858e or 458e-R. The ovangkul 458e has been the best 12 string I've tried yet - though I admit that I haven't come across a Guild 12 string yet. I'd also like an all gloss Larrivee L one day to compliment my OM-03R. I love the brand but they're hard to come by , the I've been impressed by the stock L-05MH.

I've been to several smallish Wayne Henderson concerts, and each time he passed his guitars out to the audience to audition when he took a break. Short of taking the trek to Rugby, VA, it's probably the best way to sample the wares...

I don't usually look past the next one - which may be either a Martin HD28 or a Taylor 714ce. However, I'm to thinking about going back to Ireland next year. I might stop at the Lowden shop. Id probably try something. Who knows?
