Smile Sweet!!!

I am drooling! Very pretty indeed and looks so comfortable...

I know you are using the unforgiving Maple binding and bevels, but you are making it look so easy!!!

Cheers!

Paul

Looks really nice! That little piece of Birdseye Maple looks great now, but will look awesome under finish!

Oh the simple Bird's-eyed Maple arm bevel...well done. I guess if you can't tell customers "No" - you can always flawlessly perform impossible tasks.

Thanks Ryan
About that "no" word. How exactly do you pronounce that? I need practice.

Smile Hey guys...

Do not blame me for John's desire to performe the difficult flawlessly! The maple binding/bevels was HIS idea. He did not say how difficult it was until AFTER I went for His concept. At least that is how I remember it...

But, I am very glad he loves a challenge and is so Badass!!!!

Man it is BEAUTIFUL

Going to go play #99 now...

Cheers

Paul

Default Rib rest

Paul seemed interested in how the rib rest was done. Here are a few shots.

I rout a special channel for the back purfling lines.

A dremmel router base and an exact follower is used to cut a channel that duplicates the plexiglass pattern.

So here is the purfling line glued in.

And then I glue in a thin strip of wood that will be the same as the bevel next to the purfling line. This acts as a kind of filler. The bevel will be cut to terminate at the top of the purfling line and this fills a space that would occur between the top of the purfling line and the flat of the bevel. (Hopefully that makes sense). And if by some chance I sand a little lower than the purfling line when shaping the bevel, What will show is more wood of the same color. (It's a safety net)

Then the bottoms channel of the rib rest is cut. (This picture is on its side, sorry). I use a dremmel router for this free hand and then clean up the channel with files.

You can see the binding strip propped on the body, pre bent and thinned in the area that will be forced to conform to the curve created by rib rest.

More to come when I get it done.

Beautiful!!! Thanks For the explanation, John. Your guitars are amazing.

As prescribed, the rib rest is big and long. In this pic the bevel is cur and the lower binding and purfling installed.

Another sideways picture, drat!

But there it is, finally done with the bevels, whew
