Thanks CT
I really like to hear that. It's one of those design elements with which Mike and I took a chance.

Thank you. I think/hope the best is yet to come on this one. Call it the icing on the cake. I appreciate the kind and encouraging words.

Thanks Tom! I hope this one is worthy of making you wish you had beat me to the punch on the build . But from what I'm seeing on your other stuff, that may be a hard "bar" to reach. However, I appreciate your thoughts!

Smile Technophobe...

Hey folks. If you look in the proverbial dictionary you will find my pic under "Technophobe"!

I'm going to be playing 128 at two gigs today and I'm hoping I can get someone who works in one of these places to take some phone videos of me in my natural setting…

The hard thing for me, is trying to listen to anything through my iPad, even with my good headlhones. Which sounds better than most peoples delivery systems. I find nothing sounds like it ought to.

On the other hand are some people who think terrible sounding videos are a good thing. But hopefully I can get something reasonable pretty soon.

Cheers and wish me good luck!

Paul

So...we've adding some color as promised. I like the way the light burst provides a smooth transition from light to dark.

I like it too. It improved the looks of some wood combinations that already looked good. Good call Mike!

Thanks brother. I think when we get a little shine on this and some nice lighting, there's going to be some "ooohs and aaahhs" come out of this crowd . John has done a masterful job of adding touches that these photos just don't capture...like the red purfling around the back and sides and top of the guitar. It gets a little lost "in the shuffle" of stuff.

We're still "toying with" what to do with the fingerboard. Ideas would be welcomed. Thanks in advance!

Default Nice shading!

I'm not really much of a burst or shading fan, but that really looks great!

Good call!

I'm really interested to see how the shading/burst turns out--looks great so far.

Default Update: Fretboard

While we wait for the return of the body of the guitar from the finisher, here is what we decided for the fingerboard design. The idea of this guitar from the beginning is the theme "less is more". I think, as we get farther into this build, we've moved away slightly from that idea as we are tending to add more stuff all along the way .

But, I like where it is going and here are the pictures John sent me. John will have to answer the question "what is the red wood?", but the lighter stuff is Silver inlay. John suggested Silver on the last guitar he built for me and I liked it well enough to continue with it here. The frets are Gold EVO

The red is a particularly hard and red piece of padouk. Same as the red purfling lines. I think we were coming to the realization that more is also more.

This is coming along beautifully. The fretboard inlays are simple yet attractive. And the slight burst gives a nice vignette effect...
