416 vs 426
I suspect the 416 with the spruce top is a better strummer, while the taz top may work better for fingerstyle...I basically chose the GS4e (non-cutaway 1st cousin of the 416) for strum-ability.
If at all possible, I'd recommend playing them side-by-side. You'll know which works best for your application... g'luck !

You agree with my guitar salesman(and friend). Also someone at Taylor had the same observation. I think I'll stick with the 416.
Thanks Do we all think we bought the wrong guitar the instant we order one? Am I sick? |

426
I'll stand by what I said earlier about the (You-tube video on) 426. I got to play one yesterday and all I can say is oh...my...goodness. I think the most balanced tone I've heard on a Taylor yet. I would agree about taz top being better for fingerstyle as I observed it was very sensitive to the touch. But I tend toward that style.
I didn't do much strummy stuff, so I'll have to go back and try some agressive strumming patterns to see how it reacts. My guess is that the taz top might overdrive more easily compared to sitka. |

Any updates from new 416 or 426 owners? I had a chance to play a 426ce and really liked the tone and look. I haven't been able to find a 416ce to check out locally. I was able to A/B the 426ce with a 414ce and they had much different sounds. To me, the 414 was much brighter and straight forward while the 426 had a darker, more deep and complex sound. Is the 416ce kind of in between since it combines the top of the 414 with the back/sides of the 426? Any other opinions on the 16 vs 26? Thanks!
