GREAT information on the cable and ends. Thanks so much!

I am starting a weekly open mic in a local bookstore and was worried that some performers might forget and unplug their guitar before I had a chance to mute or turn the volume down. Problem solved. Sorry, I'm new to this and got excited when I found this silent cable.
Interesting I can see where if hosting an open mic this type of cable could be a benefit, given the probable range of experience (or lack of ) that you can potentially be dealing with.

Give your favorite open mike venue the gift that keeps silent!

If your guitar has a passive (no battery) pickup setup, go out of your way to buy a high quality cable in as short a length as you can use. If you have a battery powered preamp on board, any decent cable up to 25’ or so should be fine. I’ve been using the Neutrik connectors on my cables for over a year now and they have been great.

I've had one of these silent cables for about 12
Years. It works as designed. You only need this on the end you
Plug the into the guitar. I've recently bought
Some van damme cable. Supposed to be one of
The lowest resistance on the mkt. it wasnt cheap
33 bucks for 12 feet without ends . It hasn't come
Yet.

Thought that I would post an update for my experience. I went to place an order for 2 of the right angel Amphenol plugs from Redco. Got to the shipping options and canceled because they wanted more to ship them than they cost.

I checked a few other sites including Digi-key. Same thing.

Ended up at Amazon where I found the part for a bit less than Resco’s low volume unit price and shipping for under $5 (not qualified for Amazon Prime).

Should have them 1st week of January!

Yes I find these Types of warehouse places charge
A set shipping charge . I think this discourages
Small orders. so I wait til I need a bunch of stuff.
Parts express is pretty reasonable.
Yes 16 bucks to ship 2 plugs is certainly too much.

Cool idea, but I've always just simply hit my tuner (mute) at the end of every set and unplug. I do this to save battery life.

The 10ft PRS / Van Damme cable with both ends(one being the silent plug) was 59.00.

It does look like you can make your own for 1/2 the cost if you are handy and buy the suggested plug as mentioned above. Either way, I am thrilled to have discovered this silent method of unplugging/plugging.
That's very interesting, I was completely unaware and may invest in this myself. I did a gig with my duo partner yesterday and forgot to unmute the mute-all button I used on the bar's mixer during breakdown, which wasted several minutes of time (and owner-aggravation risk) when the bartender couldn't figure out why they couldn't hear anything from the iPod nano they use to play recorded music. Thankfully the bartender was very understanding, but I love designs that don't require that I think.

Takamine has had these for years. Also very pricey. See link below

Yea this is why I stopped using mine. I still
Have the cable and use it occasionally., like from a DI to an amp.
But I have a couple of mutes in my chain so don't need the silent plug.
I think these are great for open mics as a house cord.

Same here. But as mentioned by others, this sounds like a great option for an open mic. Seen it plenty of times: folks not hitting the mute button, forgetting to press the button on the Planet Waves silent cable, and so on.
