I had a cedar/rosewood guitar that really needed brighter strings so 80/20s were perfect. I currently have two spruce/rosewood and I use 80/20s on them because I like the clarity I get from 80/20.

I do feel sometimes that there's a kind of analogue/digital type thing that goes on between PB and 80/20s (like PBs are warmer/richer/analogue and 80/20s are digital/clipped/harsh) and even though that's a sweeping generalisation I have known people who turn their noses up at 80/20s in exactly the same way an analogue lover would a digital amp or something (and I'm not saying I'd blame them but each to their own etc.)

Of course, some guitars will sound better with different strings but I definitely think 80/20s are all too often derided inappropriately.

Ironically, I find that once the initial brightness has faded (which I like personally) 80/20s mellow out and end up being extremely well balanced etc.

Obviously, all this is subjective and maybe I'm in the opposite of the OP and need to try some PBs! 😊

Guess what, I was right first time.

I'm going to try them on my Honda UMS425U.

That's a GOOD Idea ! I'm tired of replacing strimmer cord!

Gemerally spealig I disl;ike Bronze strings ad have done since they brought our Phos.brionze in the mid '70s.

But I recently acquired an old Harmony 12 string which seems to really like Bronze Martins - M190s (??)
My Martin 12 will stay with D'addario EJ37s.

Same, although I started with phosphor bronze. To my ear, PB colours the sound so much that what I hear is more string than guitar. EJ11s on everything / pre-1974 all around.

Some like the sound of strings and some like the sound of guitars.

I own 2 Santa Cruz guitars: a Mahogany/Sitka H13 and a EIR/German OM. To my surprise they both sound best using d'addario EXP 80/20s. I like both guitars a lot, but have always felt they have a very fundamental & uncomplicated sound profile. These strings bring out more of what I like in these guitars.
