Cheap nylon strings tend to be awful. Really awful. I'd get something decent, like Savarez, D'Addario or Thomastik-Infeld, and see if it sounds better. Strings are relatively cheap and a consumable. I'd avoid buying strings on ebay unless you know the source (and never from a Chinese seller).
