Default Picks

I love the form factor of the Jazz 3 picks but I just realized they sound dull!

Can anyone suggest a similar shape/thickness pick that has a nice bright sound.

Rather than change the pick, add a sharp speed bevel edge profile. Clarity, articulation, and brightness should all increase.

Try Jim Dunlop Primetone Picks in your favorite shape and gage as they tend to have an articulate tone that's neither too bright or too dull, and they come with bevels on them and wear really well. You can buy them in three-packs for around $6.00.

The prime tone are very good. If you can justify the cost of a blue chip, they also sound very good. Basically, any harder material, or a sharper point, will sound bright. Softer material, or rounded point, will sound warm. I have several types on my strap that I use for different songs.

Wegen Picks are very good. Their "Bigcity" pick is similar to a Jaz III. Hawk Picks here in the UK have a few Jazz III shape picks (various sizes) and use the same material as Red Bear. Far cheaper and always in stock ;-)

That would be my advice as well.
