Default Re-building my pedal board...

Now that I have a dual amplifiers...I'm re-arranging my effects pedalboard, have my single channel pedals first inline, then stereo pedals to take advantage of their stereo capabilities. I've got four effects on order and should all be here within the next week. I had to order more cables and connectors and some 9 volt splitter cables...

The effects on order are:

MXR Phase 90
Dark Horse distortion
Octave Fuzz
Echoplex Preamp

Added to my current effects I have, I should have a great collection. I going to use my Holeyboard for the electric guitar effects and set up a second board for acoustic guitar effects. Everything should be here and put together by next Friday or Saturday....I temporarily wired up my current effects to get an idea what they will sound like...(awesome)

If you are considering adding effects, I would suggest you go to You Tube and do a search for "How to sound like...(example: Jimmy Page). These two guys try to put together a rig that sounds just like______ for under $1500. They do a bunch of famous guitar players and are darn close if not perfect...they show what effects are used to get that special signature sound. This is where I'm getting some great ideas from for my pedal board.

Ahhh brier rabbit hole...as for moi...trying to get the most versatility with minimal pedals what you don't see is a rotation of rat and infrequently a jd10 session master where the vfe triumvirate is...also have a couple of reverbs in rotation. And recently added the old tonelab via loop switch. And use a george dennis gd25 pan stereo vol pedal that goes out to a se6L6 and a pp6v6 ... with an assortment of ceramic and alnico spk/cabs.
All the best with your insanity!

Here's a pic of my recording station as it is today...the Fender amp is on the other side of the blue wall....I've got four more effects coming...Part of the rig will always be temporary so I can insert different effects for different songs...my pedal board just simply isn't big enough to hold everything....the blue wall is for separating the two amps for recording...

Work on the board has begun. I stripped it all down and put all my effect boxes into a suitcase. I still have 5 more units coming, everything should be here by Wednesday. The suitcase is already full. I laid out my power adapters, I have 4 adapters, and each one has a 4 way splitter cable on it. So all totaled I have 16-9 volt plugs, and one 18 volt adapter for the Crybaby Wah-Wah. That should be plenty. Velcro like pedal board stuff should be here tomorrow. I bought a 7' foot roll of it, should be enough. So tomorrow I'll be installing the Velcro stuff on the board and all the pedals. I'm going to standardize all the pedals so I can interchange them as needed. The suit case has extra compartments that I've fill with patch chords and connectors, and power adapters and splitters. The whole idea of the suitcase is to keep all my pedal board related stuff organized so it's not all over the house.

Here's a link to the Velcro Like stuff, it's called T-Rex and is made for pedal boards.....

https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/Tone-Attach

All totaled I have 26 effect boxes, not counting the footswitches for the Marshall and Fender amps.

I've been using the Fractal Audio Axe-FX digital modeler for several years, with the MFC-101 foot controller. Expensive but worth every penny IMHO. No more pedals or amps. Good for electric or acoustic, and you can run 2 guitars at a time if you want to set it up that way. Free updates of firmware regularly. They now have an "effects only" (no amp models) and a smaller floor model. Look them up, check them out on You Tube.
Warnings: 1) Steep learning curve, but good right out of the box; and 2) no more amps and pedals means more $ for guitars!

I thought about going that route but it just wasn't what I wanted. I wanted to pick and chose my effects separately. I've found that doing so I end up with much better sounding specialty effects. Ya it's a pain but will be worth it to me to have a great selection to chose from. I hate to say it, but I think there's a couple more I want to get to beef up my chorus selections. A great sounding chorus is worth it's weight in gold. Just ask Stephen Stills.

And a pedal board can be operated while playing much easier and seamlessly than a rack unit.
Also to my ear there is still a slight difference in sound between analog and digital simulations.
While undeniably digital continually gets better and I do use digital extensively in my home studio
There is still something about analog, which is why for example I use an outboard analog compressor in my studio.

I know and have heard the arguments, but I've had my Axe-fx and the Ultra before that for 8 years, and there is a difference. There have been many side by side comparisons of the Axe and the real amp, and I and many others can't tell which is which. You should try it, just look them up or find someone who owns one in your area. As for effects, there are so many examples of every kind of effect, all pristine, there are literally hundreds that can be tweaked in any way. The effects alone are worth the price of admission. I have the MFC foot controller, which allows fast silent switching. This stuff is not like other modelers or other general effects units.
This is a you-tube link to a very old demo (Ultra) that blew me away at the time, currently the Fractal stuff is many iterations better. But this is still fun, I think.

Either or it's too late now for me as I have already bought the effects I wanted.

Years ago I had a Korg A2 rack mounted multi effects box. I found myself spending too much time trying to program it.

Oh man does this setup sound sweet....It's 2:00AM and I have to play quiet....just perfect...a little boost, a little delay....gently picking the strings on the Gretsch....what a great sound. ya it was worth doing. The tones I'm getting are just beautiful....my recording mics aren't setup right now but they will be in the weeks ahead....I can see myself jamming for hours at a time with this setup....wow I never imagined this....this is a whole 'nother world....
