No Bruce Cockburn? Seriously though, I would not call it an epic fail, but an arbitrary, amusing - and biased - list. It does seem skewed to fingerstyle.

No Pat Donohue?
Flawed list. Very bad omission imo.

But seriously, even though I REALLY enjoy fingerstyle, that was my first take, as well. |

Especially proud to see Larry Pattis and other AGF members on this distinguished list, but I'm a little surprised to see Eric Clapton missing. Hopefully, more than a few of these Winfield Fingerstyle winners made the list....

I would have included Woody Mann, Tom Feldman, and Mark Hanson. Woody crosses lots of genres and is a link to many of the masters now departed. All 3 are outstanding music educators.
And from the AGF, Toby Walker, Doug Young and Howard Emerson are deserving of strong consideration on anyone's list.

Lists such as this are entertaining and give us performers to check out. Congratulations to all who made the list. Though if the list was 1000 names long, there would still be great players omitted. Everyone probably has someone they think belongs and others they think don't. Use it as a tool for research and not as a gospel.

I always find these lists amusing.... Hedges at #1? Seriously?
He’s one of the lads I usually think of in terms of “endless noodling”. If you wanted to compile a decent list, you could do worse than to go back through 10 years of Guitar Player Magazine’s annual reader’s poll winners and “gallery of the greats” winners. |

I would have expected myself to recognize a LOT more names on that list than I actually did... Like, a lot Lot LOT more. This gives me a lot of homework to do; checking out some amazing guitarists I've not yet heard. |

It's a ridiculous list. Thom Bresch at 76? Please. I wouldn't expect him any higher than 83rd.

I rather enjoyed the related list to the right, "The Best Rock Guitarists on Acoustic (Plus their Best Acoustic Song)". Some good ones in there, and some I'd never heard.

And I agree with all of the others you have listed...particularly Woody Mann. And, more our membership should be mentioned on that list, and I am glad that you are adding some other worthy names to this thread. ~~~~ Someone else decried the absence of Eric Clapton...he does appear on the "Rock Guitarists" list. |
