Re-entrant Tuning for 6-string Banjo?

I did do this on my 6 string banjitar - replacing the low E and A with strings to go one octave higher. It doesn't match the real banjo drone sound at just one octave.

On a 5 string banjo tuned in G the drone is the same pitch as your guitar's high E at the 3rd fret. So about 2 octaves higher, not 1.

I tuned my banjitar to G with a proper drone (.010" diameter) with spikes on the 3rd and 5th frets. Now it sounds like a banjo should.

6 String Banjos need to have a deeper body for those low notes to speak clearly (Cello-Banjo size) like Violas having a deeper body than Violins
