Default Old Guild, 2 questions

This is a 1977 D-55 I bought new.

I'm not considering refinishing it.

Should I touch up the bare wood at these chips or leave it alone?
If so, what should I use?
Clear nail polish?

Who made these tuning gears for Guild, Schaller, Gotoh, someone else?

I'd leave it alone. It won't hurt anything and it adds character. If you do want it fixed, have a luthier do it correctly. The D55 is a fabulous guitar and should be fixed correctly.

I concur. Leave it alone. If it bothers YOU and YOU are planning to never sell the guitar....do as you wish. Otherwise...leave it alone.

I think I may be speaking for a bunch of folks here that wish they still had that one loved guitarvfdom theCarter presidency era. Please don’t touch it up. Every ding is probably a great memory.

I've got a scarred '70's Guild myself. Play it proudly.

Thanks all.
No, I won't be selling this one.
They'll have to pry it out of my cold dead hands.

It sounds so good.
Nice action still ... 41 years and no neck reset.
FWIW, I've always used light gauge strings, kept it in case, carefully controlled humidity, never took it in the sun, etc.

Anyone know who made those tuners for Guild back in the 70s?
They say Guild, but I'm pretty sure Guild bought them instead of make them.

That's a great guitar! I'd leave it alone. I still have an old Guild 12 string. Guilds never got the widespread respect that they deserved.

Guild Guitar.
Fantastic instruments.
Poor Marketing.
Used Guild guitars are some of the best guitar values in the industry.

Maybe hit it with a brown magic marker for an easy cosmetic coverup? Gotta love a 70's D55!

If it was me I would repair it. I like my guitars looking as pristine as possible and am not into vintage look and battle scars. I can do it myself, so I wouldn't have to pay to have someone to do it for me. But it's your guitar, not mine.

What product would you use?
How would you do it?

Thanks Bruce.
Looks like pg. 40 nails it for Schaller.

FWIW, these old gears still perform like new.

I have them on a guitar built 2012 and they are very, very smooth.
I believe they differ from other brands where they use a conventional single slot screw to hold on the tuner buttons - other brands use a Philips head type screw.

Hey Tico! That's a great guitar you have there!

If you want to know things like what tuner is this, what wood is that. or even, "what was the name of the second cousin of the guy who lived next to the guy at the Guild factory who made this?"

AGF is great for a wide variety of opinions.
