Of course, you could always have one made to the old Standard Series specs through the Custom Shop - for a very nominal upcharge...

I'm not Martin knowledgeable but I have owned four different Martin 15-series and I am a huge fan of the Martin company so I pay some attention.

I saw that all these standard-series guitars are 1-3/4" nut. This is interesting to me because I prefer this over the 1-11/16" on the Martins I've had.

Is this a new thing for them or were these models always 1-3/4"?

Also the only choice is EIR, which is interesting.

Ah, thanks.

What I like:

The vintage style fret markers
The wider neck
Neck Profile
Scalloped bracing on previously straight braced guitars

Somewhat indifferent:
"Ivory" binding. Better than stark white boltaron I suppose.

Dislike:
Open gear tuners.

Despise:
Ugly Yellow "toner"

I wonder how much the custom shop charge is to delete the toner. Sans toner, (and stupid open gear tuners) I could really go for one of the new M-36's

Thanks! Now you've given me an excuse to unload my 2014 Martin HD-28--Yippee!

Is it me or the prices went up?

I always told myself that the day they got rid of the black pickguard on the D-35 and went to a 1 3/4 nut, I would take the leap. The only question for me now is natural top or Ambertone.

I like the "ugly yellow toner" and the tuners

So I’ve said for years that if Martin made a production model 000-28 with forward shifted scalloped bracing, herringbone trim, open gear tuners, tortoise pick guard, 1.75” nut, and it didn’t have anybody’s signature on the fretboard, that I would be all over it. Looks like they might be calling my bluff. Not a huge fan of aging toner, but I don’t own an Ambertone yet...

I think the D-35 went up in price slightly, but if you always wanted the tone of an HD-28v with the 1 3/4 nut MLO/PA taper neck, you’ll be saving money buying the new 2018 HD-28 Standard. That’s a WIN !

Agree with another poster above about the new herringbone 000-28 as one I’ll be eager to try. But I’m worried that the 5/16” bracing will make it too boxy sounding though (like the current model 000-28).

Martin makes (made) very few modern short scale 000's with forward bracing. The 000-18GE and 000-18A come to mind, but I can't think of a rosewood example. Someone else asked about that in another thread, so I've been pondering it. Still can't think of one, although it could certainly exist with all the limited editions and such.

Ah, just read the specs again - scalloped braces, not forward shifted. That still may be enough to get me though...

Also, call me silly but I really, really prefer the traditional silk screened logo over that gold foil thing. Some things just should never have been messed with...

Wish I would have seen the new HD-28 before I bought my (used) Authentic. That's a heck of a nice spec. Not the same guitar of course, but I think that would have satisfied my Martin lust.
