I'd like the Gibson Larry Carlton ES-335 model. I like the color....

Here's a video of Larry discussing his guitars...

Favorite? That's a tough one since I primarily play acoustic now. It has really always been a case queen. It comes out and gets hung on the wall for a couple of months out of the year, and it gets gently maybe once a year. It does have a lot of sentimental value, and I try to keep it close to mint as I can. It's the only one of my guitars that doesn't have any dings.

When I do play it, it plays like butter of course. It's really versatile -- jazz, country, but a fantastic hard rock guitar. The bridge just mean!

Might have to switch out the bridge for another P90 now...
Are you talking about an Epiphone Dot? A P90 next to the bridge would give it that alley cat howl that only a single coil can deliver.

Dots make a great starting platform for building an inexpensive 335 style guitar. The stock pickups that came in mine were pretty blah, so I replaced them with DiMarzio Bluesbuckers. Bluesbuckers are basically single coils, but with a second, very weak output coil that cancels hum. They are somewhat P90-ish sounding....good, but not quite the same.

I guess so...

Yes they do... I've replaced the neck pickup, the knobs (to black speed knobs), wiped the large 'e' off the pick guard and had a new truss rod cover made that's just plain black. Back when I bought the guitar the truss rod cover said 'Gibson' for some reason. Always struck me as odd.

As I said, the guitar always played and sounded rather nice but it got superseded with more expensive ones. I've been very happy with having it modded a bit. I think the Korean era Epiphone's were quite nice guitars. By comparison I played an Epiphone Casino in a store today and it sounded... flabby.

I've had 4 Signature guitars...3 Reverends: The Pete Anderson hollowbody P-90 (PA-1) - like a Epi Joe Pass only a lot better! The Reeves Gabrels I, which is a very versatile rock guitar with a Dimarzio Fast Track and an HB (now a Railhammer HV in it)...and a Rick Vito Sig, beautiful blue, funky 50's styling and a P-90 and Supro-type single coil (called Dual-pro), really sweet for slide. I've changed the dual-pro for a Railhammer Gnarly 90 recently and it has become one of my favorite guitars. Finally a gretsch Chet Atkins Tennessean...is that a signature guitar? Not sure, but it sure is a fun one!

Interesting story. I was reading the Fender Chronicals Book - 50 years of the Strat this past week-end (great book). Mary Kaye was interviewed a few years back and she had no idea that those guitars were referred to by her name, all because of a pic of her with a blonde Strat back in the '50s. People started inquiring about the Strat that Mary Kaye was holding and the name went from there.

I'm sure you're 50th anniversary is a sweet guitar.

I used to have two Stu Hamm signature basses. Great basses, although I could never get the action to compete with my handmade stuff and the preamp was a little dated sounding.

For the most part, I don't see too many signature models that meet my needs. The Johnny A is close to something I might want, other than I might want 24.75" scale. The Eric Johnson Strat is nice, but I need truss rod access without removing the dang neck. I contemplated some of the George Lynch signature guitars back in the day. Generally, I'd much rather just get something completely custom to my specs.

Why did you get rid of the Van Halen?

It is not blonde. It is white with gold hardware.

Yeah, she is a sweetie.

I'm a fan of Zakk Wylde but don't think I could do his signature bullseye. I would take a Slash AFD (though we know he didn't use one to record that album) and a Dave Grohl Pelham Blue ES335.

Well, I have a Gibson guitar with Les Paul's name on it...

But if I were to have a "Signature guitar", it would be based from Jackson's original Concorde, aka: Randy Rhaods model or RR1.
