Just saw this. Thanks for the additional comments, folks. I thought this one had slipped into the ether.
Cat Stevens was a great writer. His Greek influenced music worked well to give him his own style and lyrical message. I think it culminated with his Catch Bull At Four album. I kept his catalog of songs in rotation with other period influences. |

Thanks!!
To respond about sounding like Cat Stevens, back in the day (my time) I learned this song when it first hit the air waves. In those days we didn't cover anything. We copied it. It was called being a copy player, or copying. There was no such thing as the creative license we enjoy today as cover players. Nope, we copied the artist in every aspect. It was common to not only play like the original artist but to also parrot his vocals as best we could. These days when I cover those early influences they tend to show my copying roots. I need to loosen up a bit on that if possible but it's just natural at this point to play stuff the way I learned it. In this case my own natural vocal range and timbre is close to Cat Stevens'. It doesn't take much inflection to sound like him. Thanks again. |

Good job, Joe. You always had that strong clear voice. I guess singing up high like that makes you use your diaphragm. I hear you on the parroting thing, though. I find myself trying to imitate the timbre of many of my favorites, too.

The Colonel and Kwakatak -
Thanks. Neil, I seem to remember you performing an inspiring cover of Wild World a few years ago. If you still have it handy why not post it? |
