Regarding Paul Williams...
I watched a documentary last night on Showtime about him.
Very interesting how a top songwriter who had it all (Grammy & Oscar for 'Evergreen' and hits like 'We've Only Just Begun') fell from grace because of addiction. He is clean now and he came off very genuine and likeable. Also, it was great to see that he was still performing. I recommend the film for anyone who is into this kind of thing.

Sounds like an interesting documentary. I remember thinking he was such a character as a kid. Didnt realize what a good songwriter he was.

He was great in Smokey and the Bandit A very, very talented song writer. I'll be on the look out for it.

One of my favorite songwriters and singers. Paul Williams to me means haunting lyrics and melody.

I didn't know that he "fell from grace". If every famous person from the 1970's that used drugs "fell from grace", it would be a huge pile up.

Hmm... "Evergreen" and "We've Only Just Begun"...
What did Ortega y Gasset say about the masses enforcing their taste for mediocrity on the rest of society as a whole? |

Some of the note patterns in the melody are reminiscent of George Harrison’s style. Below I've highlighted the words where the notes bring him to mind.
Even the way Paul Williams sings those notes and, in a few places, the quality of his voice brings George Harrison to my mind. See if you agree.I took my chances on a one-way ticket home https://www.youtube.com/watch?featur...&v=6HesRIQjz5U |

Well, I wouldn’t call Harrison’s songwriting mediocre either. In fact, I prefer his best songs to any that William’s wrote. Frank Sinatra is purported to have called, Something, “the greatest love song ever written”. Even if it turns out that he didn’t actually say that, the first Beatle song, and perhaps the only one he ever sang, was, Something.

All I can say is read "The Revolt of the Masses" by Ortega y Gasset. Ortega predicted what would become wrong with modern "culture" (and I use the term very loosely), nearly a century ago.
