Though I don’t like 4-way stops, it never ceases to amaze me how well one near my home works. In eight years, I only recall on instance where a motorist didn’t use it properly. He was lost in thought and lost track of who was entitled to cross next. I know why he crossed out of turn because it was I who erred.

I’ve driven in countries where a 4-way stop would be a disaster, countries where two-way stop signs are routinely ignored but here in southern Maine, folks do know and practice proper 4-way stop etiquette.

Did you give them to the person who told you they "stole" your energy?

We have quite a few in our city and there are no problems. There are a few in places where not having it wohld be deadly but a traffic light would be overkill. Mainly they are near a school or park.

I don't know, according to Carl Sagan perhaps there is already extraordinary evidence. Perhaps one merely needs to be able to understand what it means.

You gents aren't listening (metaphorically speaking since it's words written on a forum) He is the person who came to realize that the acquisition, maintenance, and protection of possessions, does in fact require significant energy outlay. Our minds are filled with all of this physical progress. Study the Great Pyramids and ponder what acheivements man might be capable of when his consciousness is allowed to progress unfettered by all of the physical distractions in it's physical brain.

Far in maaaan. Far in.

Honestly, none of these things bother me at all. In fact, I embrace them. I certainly remember when we didn't have cell phones. Travelling like I do to some very remote places, by car, having a cell phone is a great companion. Having a mechanical issue doesn't require walking 20 miles on a dark road. Instant communication with my employees or family is also nice.

Microwaves are great for warming up food.

Really, none of these bother me at all.

Disposable tools. I swear, every time I buy a rake, shovel, broom, etc from Home Depot I wind up breaking it within a year or 2. Meanwhile I go to my parents house and they have all the same tools as when I was a kid 40 years ago. Planned obsolescence.

Far (neither in nor out, neither big nor small, neither existing nor not existing...in the vast middle ground which is not really a ground!!!) AND close.

Max, you should be contributing more posts like these! You are in your element, man!

Imagine how great a cell phone would have been back in the cave people days...

"Dude, we got the mammoth! Plenty of food for the tribe now. But it took all day, so we are staying at the hunting site tonight. Will head back to camp tomorrow am."

"Some assembly required..." then you can't make any sense out of the directions.

Having been in construction most of my adult life this tib bit always floored me.

The Great Pyramid Of Khufu
a pyramid whose base is level within 2.1 cm (less than 1 inch!), with the only difference in the length of the sides being 4.4 cm (1.75 in). The base covers an area of 13 ½ acres.
