Excellent, Glenn, as always! I enjoyed that. I've always liked Bonnie Raitt... I wouldn't mind a bit if you share with us some of her other songs. I was probably a bigger fan of her earlier, bluesier stuff.

The Sheppard sounds so rich and full. Great sound... wonderful recording.

Hey, I wish you a lot of luck with the surgery. I know it will go well and your lovely wife will take wonderful care of you! Look forward to your giving us some good news soon about your recovery!

What a lovely arrangement, Glenn.

I like all of your guitars, but this one ... I had to check Reverb and the only Sheppard listed is a beauty with a nut size that doesn't work for me ... a real money saver .

Best of luck with your recovery!

Glenn, I’m such a fan of Bonnie Raitt, one of my favorite female voices ever. You did another wonderful job here. You’re so good at imparting emotion with your voice, always on pitch. Great playing too.

The hip replacements these days are so good, I’m sure that yours will go smoothly. Best of luck on Tuesday!

Thank you Kerbie!

Thanks so much for checking in and listening!

Regarding Bonnie Raitt, I think I have all of her albums, but like you, I tend to like the earliest ones a lot. But she is such a great interpreter and such a fantastic guitar player, it's hard to find any dud albums from her.

The Sheppard does have a wonderful sound. I experimented with about 4 guitars and realized that the Sheppard just really worked well on this song.

Thanks too for the good wishes on the surgery. My wife is so very patient and giving, I know she will take good care of me. I think that I am not always the best patient, however. In fact, I can be impatient.

Thanks so much for your comments, Kerbie!!!

Thank you Paul!

I always value your comments! I'm really pleased that you like this version of the song!

And I'm glad you like the sound of the Sheppard, too. My Sheppard has a 1 13/16" nut width and I think 2 5/16" string spacing at the bridge. It was built for a big guy with huge hands and fat fingers, and I bought the guitar used from him. So I have had to adapt to this guitar. I have now had it long enough that I seem to have finally found my groove with this guitar. It doesn't feel like the spacings are wrong anymore.

It is true that used Sheppard guitars are on the expensive side.

Thanks, too, for the good wishes on the upcoming surgery. I am planning on coming through just fine.

Thanks again for taking the time to comment here, Paul!

Hi Larry!

I appreciate your positive approach to both your reaction to my performance of this song and also to the hip surgery. It's very reassuring.

Bonnie Raitt is probably my favorite female vocalist, too, and I love the way she plays the guitar. As Kerbie mentioned, I should look through her songs to see what else I could do, because she is a great judge of a good song.

Thanks for your kind words, too, about my singing and the playing. Coming from you, I am very flattered.

And finally, you are right about hip joint surgery these days. They have this down so that in spite of the violence of some aspects of the surgery, they really do a wonderful job of minimizing the damage to muscles around the area. My left hip, already fixed in October, is a good example of how good they have become at this procedure. I was out in public within 2 weeks of the surgery, going to a group dinner, going to the theater. It was amazing, really. I am hopeful that everything will go as well this time. Thanks for the good wishes!

- Glenn

Glenn, not an easy song to play, and an even harder song to sing. Great job !

All the best for your surgery and a speedy recovery.

Cheers

Very well done Glenn.
That song is very difficult to sing. You did it well.

For those who don't know, Mike Reid, one of the writers, played pro football for the Cincinnati Bengals. How about that ...a songwriting jock!

Thank you Mach!

Great to hear from you. I'm glad you thought this song came out okay!

The song requires a little vocal range and a fair amount of expression. I messed around with where to pitch it for a while, but I eventually found a place where I could not wear out my voice but still use the dynamics for that awesome chorus in the song. I think the highest it gets is an E, so it's not terrible. Maybe it gets higher and I just didn't realize it!

I think it is such a beautifully crafted song!

Thanks so much for the good wishes on the surgery. I can't say I am looking forward to it, but I need a new hip joint, so I am willing to deal with the surgery and recovery.

And thanks for commenting here Mach!

Hi Jamie,

Thanks for the kind words! It's wonderful that you are listening!

I recognize the name Mike Reid as an ex-Cincinnati Bengal, but I had no idea that he was a song writer or that he contributed to that song! How cool is that?! Thanks for the added information!

That was wonderful Glenn, Bonnie Raitt and Bruce Hornsby would be impressed! Hope you are recovering well. I had a hip replacement in 2008 due to a running injury and it’s still going strong.
