Default 2018 Gibson SG hp

After bashing my '64 SG for about 50 years, I finally got a new one.
Can someone please explain to me why the case needs to weigh in at 42 lbs?
I just don't understand this and It Ain't My Fault...
Incidentally, the guitar is finished beautifully and sounds good.

42 pounds? Yikes! Are you talking about with the guitar in it?

Are you going to also replace that ‘64 1/2 Mustang that you bought at the same time? It is probably worn out too.

Is it really 42 lbs or is that what they charged you? Most shippers have a complex formula for shipping oversize packages like guitar cases which convert oversized dimensions into extra weight for charging purposes.

What? 42 lbs for an empty guitar case? That's crazy. That's the weight of some combo amps. You weighed it on your own scale? It just doesn't make any sense.

Congrats on the SG! Exciting.

This^^^^^. It's called "dimension weight" by some carriers.

Especially when you schlep it up a couple flights of stairs. It's metal, w/ casters, and bullet proof. I would love it if I was 18 years old. If I ever sell this guitar, it would probably cost $200 to ship it across country! Who makes these decisions?????? And the funniest part was the box had multiple notices: Do Not Drop!! I think you could drop this case out of an airplane with no damage to your guitar.

Sounds like you have a super duper flight case that Chris Hadfield can take to the space station (he took his Larrivee P-01 there).

I was just looking at the specs on the Gibson website. It states it's a "Travel Aluminum Flight Case". Guessing it could fall out of the cargo bay at 5000 feet and you'd still have your SG intact.
