I was just talking about him yesterday. Peter Allen was the best song and dance man to come to America in an awfully long time. He's been dead for a long time now, but I can still remember seeing him get in the chorus line at Radio City and kick higher than any of the Rockettes.

This. No one expects this, particularly 1 minute in.

Probably the fact that two of my favorite performers to watch are Steve Vai and Jackie Evancho.

They're both high plateau performers for me, him with the guitar and all, and her way of singing where she makes the song more important than herself, which is all too rare these days.

I play bluegrass, but most of what I listen to is jazz.

However, from time to time I listen to Whitney Houston, Madonna and Britney Spears.

Default different tastes

Though I have no aspirations to play any of this, I really like old Dixieland, classical music from the 1800's on, flamenco, and Hawaiian music, especially from the ragtime era.

While I play very traditional music (acoustic blues, old-time fiddle tunes, baroque, Celtic tunes), I do not listen to it at all (well unless I'm playing it myself)!

I listen to acid jazz, traditional jazz, chill out, and ambient music.

So, to that list - Thievery Corporation, Lemmon Jelly, Everything but the Girl and pretty much any, "Back to Mine" compilation that's out there.

I also enjoy Spearhead and Brooklyn Funk Essentials, and Grandmaster Flash.

. . . and the fan favorite, "Classic Rock!"

If I were to walk into an establishment that had an acoustic group with a banjo and a fiddle playing some mean bluegrass I'd be right down in the front row. I don't seek out to listen or play this sort of music as I would drive my wife nuts, but its really cool stuff.
