Adaptor cables to go from iPhone to Bose Wave
Hi, I was hoping some of you might be able to help me with this. This past spring I inherited a Bose Wave music system similar to the one in this photo:
The one I have is probably an older model than the one in the photo, but it's the same shape. It's a really good-sounding system, and since I got it I've been using it in the kitchen. Here's what I'd like to do: I've got lots of music on my iPhone now, but until this evening it had never even occurred to me that I could probably run it through this unit. It doesn't have Wi-Fi connectivity, but it has an auxiliary channel, and when I looked at the back of it I saw that it's got twin auxiliary inputs, in red and white. So there are adaptors that I can get, right? I'm sure that the Anchorage Apple Store has them, but I'm equally sure that they'll charge a lot more for them than I can buy them for elsewhere. So what should I look for? I don't mind plugging my phone into some wires when I'm listening to it through better speakers; that isn't any more work than plugging it in to recharge it. Thanks in advance for any suggestions you might have. Wade Hampton Miller |

Sounds like a pair of standard RCA phone plugs. Couldn't you just run a stereo miniplug (1/8") from the headphone output, unless it's one of the recent iPhones without the jack (in which case you're on your own), to a pair of RCA plugs? Used to be a very common adapter available just about anywhere...I carry one in my bag for the odd time someone wants to connect an iPod or other music player to a mixer.

Hi Wade,
I have nearly the identical Bose unit you have, do the same thing, and I use this type of cable (as Phil pointed out) with RCA jacks (input) on one end and and 1/8" plug (to iPhone) on the other: Radio Shack used to be great for these kinds of things, but I'm sure some stores still must have them. If you do have the latest iPhone with no phone jack, then some kind of additional adapter/dongle would be needed.

OR.... get one of these and connect via Bluetooth. I have one for an old Bose system and it works great!

Thanks to all who contributed to this thread. I think I'll probably resolve the situation here today. I'm kind of kicking myself for not thinking of this months ago. Thanks again. Wade Hampton Miller |

Here's what the webpage shows:
With that bottom cable I think I can still run my phone into the Bose in case I forget to recharge the wi-fi widget. Thanks again. whm |

Wade, I hope you can post your impressions of the gadget after you've used it for a bit. Untethering compatible devices from the old Bose unit really does seem to provide some enhanced and useful functionality.
