I have a home in Sanibel Island, FL, but I do not gig, take lessons, or play with others. I have noticed people playing in different restaurants in Ft. Meyers, FL and in Naples. Tampa is ok for winter also. Have you ever thought traveling to the west coast?

One place that winters are mild and has a lot of acoustic guitar activity is Austin, TX.

Thumbs up Winter escape...

I "escaped" Detroit and wandered down to Florida....then the Southwest....ended up on the Left Coast. Southern California is fantastic....but my final destination is the SF Bay area...near the Napa wine area and the Sacramento valley. I'd suggest you take a trip across the Country and see for yourself. The local music venues and plethora of guitar aficionados is terrific.

Since I'm free to roam, and travel, I started thinking : where would be a good place to run off to:

The necessities ?

Find a jam, and hopefully a good local teacher to keep me moving forward .
Warm, but does not need to be tropical .

Any suggestions ?

Is there a town in Florida that is a hotbed for acoustic guitar teachers and jams ? Maybe the town has a great music store, which is the center for learning and jamming ?

Send info

Thanks
First place off the top of my head: Nashville

Oh yeh, Mary Chapin Carpenter is a relatively new arrival to Western Albemarle County and lives down the road from me...

Don't blame you a bit! I think I've been to all these places so far and there's not a one of them I dislike. Sure would be fun. I'd start planning if I were you...

New Orleans. Live music everywhere. A lot in Biloxi, MS, too. Or Memphis.

And it doesn't snow. If you miss snow, however, you can drive to Tahoe.

Every winter I dream of escaping the "frozen tundra" of Green Bay, WI. But then spring comes and I remember why I like it here.

Then winter comes again......sigh.

San Diego/La Jolla area.

I'm pretty sure you can find a musician or two down there

Seriously. If you don't need fancy food, it can be insanely inexpensive, other than rent. Lots of entertainment opportunities.
