I think that in addition to looking for the kidnapped woman, they may have held a general dislike for white interlopers in their territory. And, you know, all them palefaces look alike...

Personally, I enjoyed the movie, despite the plot issues. I did not think it was Oscar material. Seemed like half the movie consisted of Leo DiCaprio grunting in pain.

Man, I just couldn't get into this movie. It got so much buzz I tried twice. No love for me.

Watched it in the theater and really liked it.
Rented it last night and fell asleep. Will try again today.
Only unbelievable parts to me were surviving in such wet and cold without frostbite or simply freezing to death.
And maybe I am wrong about that as the indians did live there?

The movie was too dark, really over-rated, the plot made minimal sense.
The scene with the bear was really well done, too well done.
6/10

I watched it and somewhat enjoyed it. Nice scenery. Would I pay $15.00 (or what ever they are getting today in theaters for first run films), NO....but it was worth a $4.00 red box rental.

Even there, they left out a very significant element to the story. Probably too grisly for Redford's image.

Exactly my thought. The word the comes to mind everytime someone mentions this movie is "excruciating".

Liver eating johnson's cannibalistic tendencies would scare the faint of heart!

My son and I watched it a while ago and it was entertaining, but not as good as we thought it was going to be. Still, it managed to suspend our disbelief and we watched the whole thing.

I can't get past the glaring historical inaccuracies of some of the costumes.

Goosedown was used extensively in the early West as a footwear insulation. True, they had not yet mastered the quilted sewing and spiffy logos but that's just details.

Sure, the coats are near enough, Joe Public would probably never notice, but it's the headphones .... everybody knows headphones were much bigger back then.
