Default An open apology to Trader Joe's

For the first time, I bought a product that was awful. A fire roasted tomato salsa. This stuff was inedible. My mom was raised in a depression era home with a single mother, so I can't throw anything away. So I used it sparsely for cooking.

So today is the day before garbage day, and I was about to recycle the finally empty bottle when I notice a small circle on the label with the words "NO SALT!" It's the poor musician who blames the fiddle, when it's the shopper...

I apologize Mr. Joe...

Sounds pretty awful, unlike their truffle brownies which may be the most perfect food on earth.

As much as I LOVE Trader Joe's in general, they don't make a salsa that even the remotest amount of "kick" in it, leastwise not for my tastes... I like the Hatch Valley Green Chile Salsa, but it is absurdly tame...

One of the big reasons that I love Trader Joe's so much is that, if I buy something there and don't like it, I just take it back for a full refund... and I will not hesitate to do just that if something is wrong with it or I really don't like it. It is a great policy, and one that stimulates taking chances to try new things... I have checked out a bunch of products (and really liked them) that I otherwise would never have bought without that "satisfaction guarantee" policy.

This is especially nice when I buy an avocado from them, wait 3-5 days for it to ripen... only to open it up and discover that it's rotten inside! Avocados aren't cheap; at least this way I actually get my money's worth.

But I don't buy salsa there, as a general rule...

I miss Trader Joes & Wegmans. We have neither in Pensacola.

We do have a Fresh Market.

If you cut out salt for 3-4 weeks - you'll find that you won't need it again.

Your taste buds and body have become addicted to salt and sugar - probably because you are buying processed stuff like you mention.

You can live without salt and sugar because in real food they are there anyway, and everything will taste better once you've gone through a short withdrawal.

I hearby empower you to add salt if you find a dish that is lacking.

It's like watching someone that is stuck on an escalator during a power failure...

My favorite thing about Trader Joe's is the quality and variety of reusable shopping bags that they sell.

I prefer cooking with a tomato based product I don't like. Life is too short to try to fix a "featured player". I prefer to give them a shield and spear and have them stand in the back

This brings up the issue of packaging and appearance.

How many times have you bought FAT FREE yogurt, when you wanted to buy either low fat or regular? How many times have you picked up the FAT FREE half and half, when you wanted full strength.

Those people that design the packaging appearance should be SHOT for making differences in the type of items sold, almost indistinguishable.

ITS WORST THAN THE WELLS FARGO SITUATION if you ask me,

H

I use TJ's "Salsa Autentica" quite a bit - seems to go well with lots of things. It's on the mild side.
I avoid lots of things in addition to salt. Bleached flour, refined sugar, preservatives like sulfites.
One of the reason's I like Trader Joe's is that you can find foods that aren't over processed.

I like that one too. It's actually my favorite commercial thin/watery salsa.

I have many ways to change a Salsa I like the basic taste of from mild to wild without altering the basic taste

If a recording I make is a little short on talent, I reach for the nob and add a bit of reverb.

If the salsa is short on salt, and few foods are short of that these days, I reach for the salt shaker and add a bit.
