Default Moose and squirrel

Today , Moose and squirrel met .
Squirrel appeared terrified .
Moose is my 4 year old Airedale Terrier .
It is short for Moosezilla .
Moose is such a wonderfully feminine name .

Out squirrels are more worldly. They see me and the dog coming and they visually calculate the exact length of the leash. They just sit there, pretending not to notice an 80 pound blonde dog sneaking up on them, letting him get to almost leash length, and then they bolt up a tree so fast you can't see them, stop on a low branch and bark back at the stupefied dog circling the base..

No matter how many times it happens, the dog goes into it with a "this time it will work" attitude.

Squirrel was in live trap .
Moose wanted squirrel .
Moose overturned trap .
Flaps in trap dropped allowing escape .
Squirrel actually ran up the front of me and literally flew over the 6' wood fence behind me . Guess squirrel was looking for the first vertical thing it could find .
Moose encountered another squirrel later at same location and almost got it .
She's gonna get one of them sometime and it won't be pretty .

OK, I'm staring to understand this thread now.

For a while there Otterhound, I thought you were speaking in riddles or haikus or something ...

Yup. The squirrels this side of the pond are pretty nippy little buggers too. My cat used to try and get 'em, she's learned not to bother now.

I've mentioned it on other threads—Rocky and Bullwinkle was created, written, and voiced by my grandfather, Bill Scott (along with Jay Ward, June Foray, etc). Natasha was modeled after my grandmother.

I'm always glad to give props to the enduring genius that is Rocky and Bullwinkle, even if it derails a thread about Airedales and squirrels...

While huntin' for squirrel with Otter

Moose said "Sorry Dad I nearly got 'er !"

Hound said "What can I do ? I must have squirrel stew !"

So he upped and he shot 'er, the rotter.

I easily taught my retriever to leave squirrels, chipmunks, porcupines – any critter - alone. He would quietly sit on his haunches near me as a chipmunk or squirrel ate peanuts out of my hand.
