This is what they sound like:

Just dropping in to say that you need to be careful of Nigel's videos: They are like heroin. I got hooked badly after watching a couple. I ended up getting a SessionKing when I really didn't need another guitar:

I've played a lot of Nigel's guitars over the years. He's really doing a lot of stuff that noone else out there is at. I really do have to try one of those Howe-Orme cylinder tops at some point...

Cheers,
Steve

That's a beautiful sound. I can't wait to try one out.

Is X-bracing common on Tenors or are there ladder braced ones as well?

Probably, as tenors are often at the cheap end of what makers make, and ladder bracing is quick. Often sounds great though.

CGDA is how tenors used to be tuned but GDAE and GDAD are becoming more popular - they are both more useful tunings if you're playing with others. I already had a design that worked beautifully for the tuning - this is the same body shape as my guitar bouzouki, the scale, fretboard width and bridge placement are all the same. What I did was flatten the top from the complicated cylinder top, lighten the bracing, change the materials and loose 4 strings! Hey presto - one high performance tenor guitar!

So this is how the design started:

It probably isn't obvious, but this is exactly the same shape as my tenor. Just quite a bit fancier and quite a bit more complicated with a cylinder top and an arched back.

That video of Tom Fletcher playing "The South Wind" on a Session King has haunted me since I first saw/heard it. I am very happy with my guitar collection, but there is a blank space where the Session King should have dwelled. Luckily I'm in Norway, but if I ever go to Leipzig...

This guitar belongs to a chap in Norway. You could always ask him for a try...

that's cool, yes I can really see that cylindrical shape. I am now playing a tenor guitar and I have to say I absolutely love it. I've tried a few of the recommended tunings but have really taken a liking to the CDGA standard tuning.

As I pick this thing up and play it I am hearing things that I heard on various recordings from various artists, even TV commercials probably too, that I wondered how did they get that sound? Now I know, it's the tenor guitar. Very cool instrument. I can't put it down once I pick it up.
