Great playing and congrats on the new Larrivee OMC. She sounds like a beauty and I wonder why they don't make them anymore.

Thanks brothaman! John Jr. actually didn’t say why they were so rare when we talked about this particular guitar... I think the proportions are downright sexy like an Olson SJ or something...maybe with the cutaway it becomes difficult to find consistent wood that’s flexible enough to handle the bending. I’d heard they won’t do certain tonewoods for the b/s for the C-Model which is also a Florentine cutaway. That’s my only theory currently. Thanks for listening though!

Nice job...I love your playing style-I struggle with that "percussive thing" you are doing.

Wonderful job on this, Dustin! Beautiful arrangement and very well played!

This song was published in May, 1970 just about the time I graduated from college and when my wife and I got married. I remember it very well. In fact, I found that I tended to really listen to Karen Carpenter sing because her alto singing voice and my wife's were very similar.

The cool thing about your playing is that if I didn't know all this information from actually living it that I would think that this song came from the 1930s or 1940s -- the golden age of song writing in my view. You have so many very cool jazzy voicings in there that the piece sounds like it fits right into that time period.

Very well done! And that guitar sounds lovely!!

Well done, Dustin.

I remember this song very well from my pre-teen days, before I became too cool for the Carpenters

A friend put on this and a few of their other tunes during dessert on New Year Eve, it was a very sophisticated way to ring out 2017!

As always, your playing is a joy. Keep it up!

Wow!

You sound great, and the guitar isn't too bad either! I really liked the arrangement you did, especially the harmonics in the last little bit! Very nice!

Glad you all enjoyed!! I couldn’t believe I’d gone 24 years not hearing this tune...such a memorable song. And don’t worry, the Larrivee is staying

Outstanding, Dustin... that was a pleasure to hear! I loved your arrangement. It helps when you start with a wonderful tune, but I really liked it. Like others have said... great little jazz voicings, excellent harmonic run and a nice little percussive feel that wasn't overdone.

It's a shame we lost Karen Carpenter's voice so early. It was so sweet... just crystal-clear. And I enjoyed Richard's writing and musicianship. Good duo...

Very well done!

Thanks for the feedback Kerbs
Someone once said Karen Carpenter sings to you, rather than most who sing at you...and I couldn’t agree more...so soothing!

I would have to agree ... you play nicely, but the percussive slaps detract and distract from the beauty of your playing.

I agree. Overall nice job but drop doing the taps.

Thanks for the feedback guys, always appreciated...Honestly I'm not a big fan of percussive playing either, especially when players desert the melody or the song in it's entirety in favor of tapping or doing fancy triplets and stuff... I often prefer a guide for the groove on tunes like this because it satisfies me while I play it and as long as it doesn't fight with the melody I keep the taps
