question about musicpublishing
Hi I placed a new hymnarrangement on:
http://www.classicalguitarlesson.com/COMETHOU.mp3 an older example of my arrangements is on: http://www.vimeo.com/3221949 I wonder which musicpublisher would be interested to put these arrangements on print (Sheet) and publish. Any suggestions whom I can contact? Regards, Marcel |

What a beautiful, beautiful rendition of Come Thou Fount. Awesome playing. I think you should find and submit this to to film and tv people. I'm not sure of any particular ones to tell you, but what you might do is to pick up a copy of this years Songwriter's Market (amazon and elsewhere). It details which publishers, labels, managers, etc. are looking for what type of music and it outilines submission criteria. You may already know, but I humbly suggest that the submission criteria is followed to the T. Unsolicited submissions usually find themselves in an unreadable bin Steve

I haven't taken the time to listen yet......
I used to work in the print industry for a major publisher, as a music editor in charge of instructional books. We published very few submissions, four submitted books in the 5 years I was there, as I recall. That said, occasional folks who submitted work were hired to to do other freelance projects. You submit a collection of folk songs and we ask you to arrange Christmas carols, for example. In general, what we would look for was stuff that was 1. Playable 2. Sounded great 3. Notated properly (requiring only a light edit) It's very sexy to get a product that we thought would sell and was in a state close to publication quality. It rarely happened though, there were often fatal flaws.... Contact Hal Leonard, Cherry Lane, Alfred, Mel Bay....be prepared to wait. Could be 6 months before you hear from anyone, if ever. Even if they like it and want to publish, figure 1-3yrs before it hits the presses. All the pubs have websites, if they are willing to receive submissions, you'll be able to find out there. In general they are more open to unsolicited stuff than record companies, at least I was. |
