Default Pick Protection Between Pickguard and Sound Hole

My Larrivee OM-03 has a cedar top and the softer wood is more easily dinged by pick scratches when I play "with abandon" in my band.
I was getting pick damage between the pick guard and the sound hole. I drop filed it with CA but I want to protect the area better without compromising the sound or appearance.
I could buy a clear pick guard and cut a piece off and install it there, but I was wondering if it would damage the finish if I just put a piece of clear packing tape there.

I would think the best approach is to adjust your grip so that less pick tip is exposed.

I have attempted to modify my technique, but my concern is that by the time I find out if I was successful or not, the damage will have been done.

If the pick tip doesn't extend enough to reach the soundboard, and it shouldn't, you would be hard pressed to do damage.

I have the exact same issue. I use the clear pick guard material from SM to cover the area and I have no issue with the finish.

Works great for me.
